So i was accepted into uc irvine, but i put down my major as Engineering Undeclared. But once I got admitted my major was changed to Undeclared/Undecided. I asked admissions and they said that I can change my major at another time. Why do they accept people into Undeclared/Undecided when we have already declared a major? Are other people having this problem that they are getting accepted as Undeclared/Undecided rather than their major?
You were accepted into the UCI but not into your major. Some schools accept you first into the school and then decide if they have room for you in your specific major. Some schools accept by major and others by college.
As @Gumbymom said, UCI accepts you first into the university and then assign you to the chosen major If there’s enough space or If you meet the prerequisite by the chosen school itself. My friend was accepted two days ago as “Undecided” while she initially applied for Physics, according to the admission office you may change your major to a non-restrictive major once you have submitted a positive SIR April through May.
The following majors are restricted:
· Business Administration
· Dance
· Engineering – all majors
· Music or Music Performance
· Nursing Science
It sounds like you were not accepted into the School of Engineering. Here is some info about switching into engineering: http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_Engr.html.
Is there anything on your acceptance that would indicate you were accepted by a specific School? Is it possible that you were accepted by Engineering and they have you down as Undeclared?
