March 2012 SAT I Writing Thread

what did u guys put for the final question on the first section for writing. i put for example. but i thought that it was either that or “by the same token”

Just remembered a question about parachute riggers “certified to inspect, repair, and repack” (the original) vs “certified for the inspection, repair, and repacking…”. Which is the right one?
I picked “certified for” just because I liked the nouns better. I don’t really know if it was an idiom or an actual rule though.

that one was tricky but i would think it would have to be “repairing” for the second one so i just went with the original.

i kept the original

^^ Agreed.

I put for example.

One of the identifying errors was something like “she brought to her career a reputation that it has not previously enjoyed.” That’s way off, but “has” supposed to be"had?"

had 10 char

I agreed ^^.

How about for lake Biwa?

I put A which was Lake Biwa, (the larger) of Japan’s lakes,

^yeah it has to be “the largest of many of Japan’s lakes”

it said of Japan’s MANY lakes. this means you need a superlative hence largest*

^It was the largest.

I also vaguely remember 3 Es, but for the Jenna and I question (third to last one on fixing the sentences), wasn’t the error Jenna and I because it wasn’t the subject of the sentence?

@GoodJobBro

I think I chose whichever one said “largest”.
Larger is used only to compare two things, right?
Also, google searched it, Lake Biwa is infact Japan’s largest freshwater lake XD

SATMaster
“Repair” is still a noun. Both choices just seem so right to me! This almost never happens when I practice.
A quick google of “certified for” and “certified to” both yield results like the choices. “For” applies to nouns (my choice) and “to” applies to verbs (original).
What is grammatically wrong with my answer, if it is in fact wrong?

@lappith
had is right. i missed it =/

also what was the identifying error that was “less talkative/avoided going to the principal’s office even once”
i put less talkative

@gossamer

i’m just pretty sure the answer is the original. it definitely sounds the best too in my opinion.

SATMaster
I’ll count this one as a miss then. It’s the first one so far, so I’m not (too) bitter. x)
I just hope my essay is as good as I thought it was.

@SATMaster13 and gossamer

what question are you guys talking about?

Was the question that had “modeled after” a ‘no error’?
