March 2012 SAT I Writing Thread

Why for the lipstick question, isn’t “whose” wrong?

@perfect
yes

@BMW

Because in that same question “vary” was wrong. Plus, you can use whose to describe non humans.

Ex.
The car, whose radiator was broken, needed to be taken to a shop.

Plug “that” or “which” (The only other words that can replace whose) and see if it makes any sense at all.

Whose is the possessive form of those two words.

2 wrong mcq with probably a 9 or 10 for my essay. What do you think the score will be like? 750?

@hkim: Last SAT I took, 2 wrong and 10 essay netted me an 800 in W. Curve won’t be THAT harsh.

Is it “everyone except me were lawyers” or “everyone except I was a lawyer?”

@hkim

770+ IMO, probably a 790 this time around for a 10 and -2.

everyone except me was a lawyer

Was it Dana and I or Dana and me? It was about the 27th question on the 35-question section.

Why is it was a lawyer and not were lawyers? What is a -2 with an 11 essay?

What was the answer to the question about the bike lanes? Was it ‘no error’? Also, what was the answer to the question about “an author combining literary elements with mythical elements, creating an evocation.” I don’t remember the question completely, but it was something along those lines.

@SimplyBMW everyone is singular.

@Simply

everyone is singular.

so it’s everyone was a lawyer

not everyone were lawyers.

@SimplyBMW: Likely 800, possible 790.

@mistahpark: I believe I put no error for both.

Was the one with like a ton of C’s (unless i got them all wrong) the experimental or the real one?

@BMW

Nice boat is right
Everone is singular

Anyone remember improving paragraphs questions?

@phrophylaxis

no error

I got 4 no errors… don’t remember them but there were definitely more than 3…

General consensus is 3. You are probably wrong.

Doubtful. W/e I usually get 800 writing guess I’ll just cancel my scores. Can you at least tell me which three they were "nice"boat?

I think the japanese bullet train one was no error. that’s what I had anyway haha
