Master List of Music School Acceptances, Fall 2012

For my D, the scholarship info came a long time after her acceptance (she did the early December audition at Hartt but didn’t know about the $ until late March/early April).

My son’s acceptance letter from Hartt included his scholarship award. It might be possible that he could still get an academic scholarship. U Hartford only gives one or the other. I’d definitely call and ask.

Scholarship update: 14k/yr from Indiana and a full ride (minus work study) from Northwestern (although that doesn’t count as merit scholarships).

Thanks for your comments. I will call Hartt tomorrow just to make sure. Any thoughts on St. Rose vs Oneonta? He really liked St. Rose, but Oneonta has such a good rep.

Congratulations, soprano93. I am a little confused as to how to record the Northwestern scholarship, or whether it is a scholarship at all. What I would like to put in the spreadsheet is the total of any talent-based awards and academic scholarship money, not counting need-based aid of any kind. If you can boil that down to a number for me, I would appreciate it. I have heard the term “full ride” used to mean anything from full tuition up to full cost of attendance (including fees, books, room and board) plus a stipend beyond that.

Congratulations also to teachermom73 and son, for son’s acceptance as a vocal performance major at SUNY Purchase and Westminster Choir College, as noted on another thread.

We didn’t look at Oneanta, but I was impressed by the facilities at St Rose, and the level of support the school seems to be giving the music program.

jmd5505–I know nothing about the Music Industry program at Oneonta, I can only tell you that it is considered to be the biggest party school in the SUNY system. I know of several families who avoided Oneonta for that reason, and just heard of someone’s S transferring out after his freshman year because he was tired of being surrounded by students who spent most of their time drinking.

Good luck to you and your son with your decision.

Bassdad, it was all need-based so no need to report anything! Thanks!

Hello,

I will be a Master’s Voice Performance (Soprano) student as of Fall 2012! I was accepted to:

Florida State University
Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University ($20,000)
New England Conservatory ($20,000)

Big decisions!

Scholarship update for D
Oberlin conservatory and college (BA creative writing) - 6K talent / 12 K merit
U Michigan - 3K talent / 5K merit

Congratulations to iThinkiCan1 and violinmimi and daughter.

I’m new to this forum. Anyone have advice on a strategy for our child that applied to 4 top schools and was rejected to all (hard to be a part when each school only admits 4 to 8 students). Our child made it to auditions and was noted as having talent but they were looking for a certain voice type. Any schools that might take admissions at this late stage?

Just a few more results to add here. Some of them I still can’t believe…

Juilliard - Accepted ($11k/yr)
MSM - Accepted ($7k/yr)
Curtis - Rejected
U Kentucky - Accepted ($12k/yr)
NEC - Accepted ($6k/yr)
Eastman - Accepted (and still waiting for finaid)
UT Austin - Accepted (previously reported, still waiting for finaid)

So that’s that.

Congratulations to everyone here - what a talented group! And good luck with all the decision-making. :)

@ avoicemom- Check your PM box and get back to me!

avoicemom, you may want to read http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/192395-no-acceptances-one-kids-story-year-later.html

An oldie, but a goodie…

Every year about a week or two into May, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (nacacnet.org) publishes a list of schools that are still looking for students. That may be worth a check when it comes out. There will likely not be any top conservatories on that list, but there may well be a school that has a decent music department with a good voice teacher where your daughter can regroup for a year while figuring out what she wants to do.

Congratulations to Mezzo18.

GlassH, no results on Albert yet for my son but thanks for the reminder to check there. Hopefully he’ll hear tomorrow.

Son back from jazz festival for the weekend, and found Friday’s email from Jacobs (for BM Comp (piano) previously reported) for 15,000 combined scholarship. Pins & needles all weekend, very relieved he has a couple of great options, now it’s all about deciding between two very different college experiences… Thanks to everyone for all your generous insights, this is a priceless community.

avoicemom, I suggest you start a new thread so that people will see your question. I’m sure you hear many more good thoughts and ideas that way.

KnittingGene - NYU decisions were all emailed to students on the evening of 3/29 with a few then sent on the morning of 3/30. I would call admissions tomorrow morning to get the results or make sure they resend. Albert changed first for S and then about 2 hours later he received the email on 3/29.
