Math SAT scores

SAT I: 750
Math II: 800
Yeah, i'll join the physics-posting club. It's almost math...
Physics: 800

I, for one, found the subject tests much easier (could you tell?) than the SAT Reasoning, and I saw at least a few people on the previous pages in similar situations. It would be interesting to compile all the data here and see exactly how the scores correlate. Hmmm, I DO have a stats project due after break... but I also have apps. If this thread is around when I have spare time again, I might investigate more thoroughly.

SAT I: 790 (somehow managed to miss one of the easiest questions on the test, lol. Also had to take it 3 times to get it that high).

SAT II: 800

I hate SAT I math. I'd much rather do hardcore calculus than that stuff. SAT II math is ok though.

My Math IIC score is higher than the Math SAT I score, but I still think that the reasoning Math test is much easier than IIC. It's just that it is far harder to get 800 in SAT I than in IIC (I omitted like 3 - 4 questions and still got 800, while I only got like 2 questions wrong in SAT I Math, but lost about 40 points...).

800/800 IIC/36 ACT Math

720 MAth I
730 Math IC

SAT I: 580
SAT II: 570IC

I really am passionate about going into engineering and my math scores on the SAT suck. The SATs do not appeal to me at all. I do not understand why a college would ever base a lame test on acceptance. I know they don't base the whole thing on the SAT but it is highly considered in the application process. My SATs were horrible and I don't see how that will make me or break me in college. I felt like I was trying to solve riddles all morning on that test. All that test did was blow me out of $40 extra dollars. That is insane just to take a test. A huge money maker is all it is...and so are the majority of colleges. 40K for one year at a decent college is ridiculous. I'm thinking about trying to make up my own college entrance exam now that I see their money making scam. lol

What else should they use to judge admission? WealtH?

Basing acceptances on high school track records alone isn't good enough because different high schools operate differently. The SAT is an attempt at standardizing things so that each student could more or less be judged on an equal playing field. Creating, distributing, and correcting tests cost money, so the only way they can offset those costs is by charging for money. How successful they are at achieving that is up to you, but it's important to note that the point of the SAT is to make things fair, not just to take your money.

It looks like you're just really really paranoid about money scams, courtney1121 ...

I agree with the above poster. In Canada, we don't have SAT's, but I wish we did.

In my opinion, they should make the SAT harder (or create harder SAT II versions) and rely on it more heavily for admissions, because there's just no uniform way to compare GPA and class rank across thousands of high schools. The current SAT is easy enough that top schools can't really distinguish the top students among the 750+ scorers.

It's not so much that I have a problem with using a test for admissions, because I do like the ACT. I just will never see how the SAT makes things fair. How is it fair if someone is not a test taker? How it is fair for a girl to take a test created by a group of males? And yes, I think it's bias towards women.

Basically, I'd rather take a test like the ACT that will actually test you on material than on the SAT where you have to figure it out by reasoning.

Courtney... now you're just getting ridiculous.

Bias with the SAT? lol...
How is it fair for someone that is not a test taker? If you are bad at tests, then you obviously aren't as bright as someone that scored higher than you. Tests are the best way of measuring someone's knowledge and intelligence, and that's why they exist.

And please explain how the test is biased.

SAT I-770, SAT II Level 2- 680 :( :( :( :(

Courtney, how is it fair for a male to take a test in a class with a female teacher? If the SATs are gender biased, then why isn't there a large discrepency in scores between genders? Are girls naturally smarter but their innate advantages are nullified by the SAT bias?

SAT I Math: 800 SAT IIC MATH: 800

Courtney, your arguments are getting more and more ridiculous. So you got low test scores, who cares? No need to justify them by saying CollegeBoard was at fault. Just suck it up.

Don't listen to these fools, Courtney. I believe you. I also feel that the SAT is biased even though I'm not capable of providing any justification for that hefty claim. And who doesn't know at least one stupid guy that isn't really stupid, just "a bad test taker"? People like you make me very, very happy.

To actually contribute:
800 Math SAT I
800 Math IIC

The curve on the SAT I is what kills most people, as was noted above. If you make one dumb mistake your score falls immediately, unlike the Math IIC, which has an unnecessarily large curve.

Thank you dmurphyiv.

There is a lot of guys at my school that did fairly well on the SAT, but academically, there grades don't match up. How is it fair for a college to overlook their grades and accept them based on SAT scores which a lot of colleges do. I'm just saying this because I worked absolutely hard these past 4 years of high school even freshman year which is usually a lot of people's worse, and was actually my best year, finishing out with a 4.0. I did not once slack throughtout these 4 years and now I have a test on my shoulders saying I'm not bright enough, when I am an A student. Now that's ridiculous. They say that this test is suppose to measure you on how well you'll do in college, which is completely untrue. I know a lot of students that did not do well and went to exceptional colleges. For example, my sister scored only 60 points better than me and she was accepted to Bucknell University and did very well there. I don't see how it can tell a college whether you will exceed or not there. I don't disagree with them totally for considering SAT scores but they should not be weighted on so heavily. It's just a test and that's all I'm saying. I just don't think it's right that a college should reject someone because their scores don't add up.

ok, if the test is so biased, why don't you give us a few examples? You think the test creators were all like "let's find some way to screw over all the girls by creating a test that they won't do well on"? And I don't really get the whole "not a test taker" arguement. I was under the impression that tests make up the largest percent of your grades in college, so why isn't it fair to base admissions on standardized tests? Btw, I don't think you could go though high school with a high gpa without being good at taking tests.

SAT biased against what? Biased against Girls? Biased against the poor? Biased against the high-GPA student?

Stop switching your arguments.
