i'm in the same situation, i have to choose between the easier/difficult path, but i don't want to overload on my course schedule. I'm a bio-engineering major and probably want to take some Haas pre-reqs just in case i decide business is for me. how rigorous a schedule does it look for me? I'm thinking maybe math 1a and chem 3, since i took calc BC (and got the 5) my junior year in high school, and Chemp AP with a 5 my senior year

i wouldn't advise going onto chem 3 without taking chem 1a at Berkeley. Sorry but a 5 on AP chem is not going to prepare you. I think you would be left behinde and the profs only talk about chem 1a in about 1 hour. I never took AP chem but my friends who did told me that AP chem only helped for the first week or two in chem 1a.

My friend went straight to chem 3a and earned an A-. Just one story out of many.... :). Unless you are pre-med, there isn't any big reason why you should take chem 1a (you can always brush up on those general chemistry concepts later on).

i got a 5 on the AP calc AB test junior year. i was going to skip into math 1b but im starting to wonder if i should. ive heard a lot of bad things about math 1b and im afraid that i'll have forgotten some of the stuff i learned in calculus. so am i better off just taking math 1a? btw, im a MCB so i just have to take one year of math.
Thanks

i got a 5 also on AP calc AB and I decided to take Math 1A and let me tell you it was a good idea. The reason why I sugggest this: My Math 1B teacher would take off 9/10 point on a midterm question if you made a Math 1A mistake and let me tell you this really hurts. Anyways taking Math 1A will only help you because you will probably get a better grade and will prepare u better for Math 1B much better that Calc AB in HS.

Well in math 1b a lot of the material from math 1a is used. Thus, my prof would take 9/10 points off a midterm question if you made a math 1a mistake. For example if you messed up on integrating or taking a derivative the you would get 1/10. And the derivatives and integrals on the tests were tough (they were no like the integrals and derivatives in Calc AB).

i'm an engineering-undeclared student who's probably going to major in EECS. chem 1a is the only required chem course. should i go ahead and take chem 1a even though i got a 5 on the chem ap test?
