I'm applying to Cornell, and was wondering whether they would accept Math IIc and Math IC as two subject tests out of the required three, or would I have to sit Literature or French or whatever else I choose to do?

vrumchev, as far as possible try not to do both Math IC and IIC and then send them as 2 subjects...which college are u applyin to and for what major?

Well I don't mind doing Literature or French as my third exam, but I know that I would do much better in a math subject rather than a humanity... I would like to major in Mechanical Engineering.

vrumchev...U would seriously want to do Physics and Chemistry then... but u have to do atleast physics or chemistry...U can't avoid those two subjects

mechanical eng. - do physics

and how are ur 2c scores on practise tests? on practise tests i ended upgetting 800 in all 2cs (and did so on the actual test too). But i did 2 ics and got 760 and 740. the ic grading scale is very strict. chances are u'll end up with a lower score on ic

my advice - if you are good at maths, do only 2c.

MetallicManiac's absolutely right...if ur good at math do IIC...DON'T AVOIS PHYSICS AND CHEM!!!

do physics and/or chem - but only the one(s) you think you'll be able to score well on. Cornell doesnt require 2 sciences.

yeah...but if u are good or decent at both...TAKE THEM BOTH!...bec for engineering doin Phys and chem is more impressive than doin Phys and Literature

I quit Chemistry in Year 12, so I can't do it. I am definately doing Physics and Math IIC, I just need a third subject test, and I feel that I'll do better on the Math IC than Literature or French.

if u think u'll cross 750 in Literature or French do that...in such cases...its better to show that u got variety...If u get a decent score in IC, the'll know ur good...but Chem is VERY EASY...I didn't study at all and still got 800. Actually all SAT-2's are very easy...anyone good won't have a problem gettin 800

sorry...i meant...if u get a decent score in IIC in line 2 of my post

finally, vrumchev, do you think your 2c and physics scores will be great? say - equal to or close to 800? then you dont even need to give a third SAT2. I just gave one for kicks. Cornell apparently looks only at your highest 2. However, you may wanna give a third one anyway so, like arjun said - chem is very very very easy - 10th/11th grade stuff. The only catch is that the scale is kinda strict. max of 4 mistakes out of 85 will give u an 800.

and dont give an extra sat2 just because you want to - make sure u can get very good scores on them too.

Well I can't predict my scores, as I've never seen a SAT Subject Test before in my life, but Maths and Physics are my fortes so I'm hoping to do well.

Perhaps Cornell only requires 2 subject tests, but I'm applying to some other schools that seem to require 3, so I kinda need a third one. It's just that I am sceptical about doing well in French or Literature, where as I would be fairly sure I'd do alright in a math..

take a go at Literature anyways...and prepare all December vacation for it... the effort will pay of in that they'll know that u know a lot...But if u can manage to do well in french...there's nohin like it, bec they'll be really impressed...btw aren't u bit too late for RD dates...last date is Dec 3rd test rite?

I'm pretty sure its Jan 28 test date, except for Stanford but I've let them know about my circumstances in the app.

thanks for all your help guys!

sure...hey, thats what CC was created for i think

lastly, since you're strong at physics and maths, i'd suggest doing chem. It took me three days to prepare and get an 800. and you got more than a month. try doing a diagnostic. say on sparknotes.com. takes only an hour, and it could be worth the time.

i havent done it for a year though... I have forgotten a lot of things!!
