***MAY 2015 Subject Test - US History***

@commielover what was the “area gained through mili” question? Also, the maize thing may not be right (not sure) because that was mostly in Mesoamerica, while it seems like the fur trade already developed before European contact. Also: Calhoun, economic quote was FDR, inner light was transcendentalism, gag rule was about abolitionism, treaty was probably thomas jefferson/LA purchase, GI bill seems right, Californy was probably Missouri senator who wants states to go to Union, for the west question I feel like the answer was one of the ones you didn’t list, deseg was Truman

@ComputerAge I looked it up it’s definitely Phylis, and according to online sources Natives had already been doing fur trapping, while the maize stuff was mostly in Mesoamerica. though I’m not competely sure.

How could the feminism quote be phyllis schalafy? wasn’t she conservative?
This is what wikipedia says:
Phyllis McAlpin Stewart Schlafly (/ˈfɪlɨs ˈʃlæfli/; born August 15, 1924) is an American constitutional lawyer, conservative activist, author, and speaker and founder of the Eagle Forum. She is known for her staunch social and political conservatism, her opposition to modern feminism, and her successful campaign against the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S.

It was definitely the start of farming in woodland areas. Look at the quote I posted earlier.

@MileSwimmerDude do you remember the whole West question? I don’t remember the ethnic diversity answer. Also, I said union of blacks was wrong as well but I looked it up and it seems like Knights of Labor at least were open to blacks, so now I’m not as sure. Could’ve been thet black northern newspaper thing.

the question was what territory was gained thru military force and not thru negotiation

she advocated power in women thru their roles as birth mothers
she wrote the power of the positive woman, which I think was in the quote

@fireonice Think about the mormons in the west; were they diverse? No, most westerners were homogenous german immigrants or specific sects. I doubt many unions were open to blacks, most were even exclusive to certain occupations/skill. I could be wrong as well, not sure.

@seahawks1212 I’m not sure. I’ve found multiple sources indicating that Americans shifted views in 1940 because of the atrocities in Europe, aka they want to help the Allies now.

Spanish american war led to annexation of puerto rico; force was used there obviously.

@MileSwimmerDude sorry do you remember the other answers for the West question? Maybe I just don’t remember. Yes, but is there any evidence that northern black newspapers encouraged southern blacks to move north? I really don’t know.

Is this sparksnotes curve accurate for what our curve is probably gonna look like?

@fireonice the west question was most likely tolerance of native americans
cio had some civil rights components, but the afl was kind of anti African American, so I’m not sure

Yeah I don’t recall either debated answer choice, what else was there for the west one?

@fireonice Black newspaper writers would encourage blacks leaving the oppressive south for new opportunities. I remember that one was tolerance with indians and another was the diversity. One other answer was that men outnumber women and that women could vote. All of those are true except that they were not diverse.

@commielover do you remember what the question was asking? I now remember deciding between tolerance of native americans and one other answer…

“All of the following were characteristic of the west EXCEPT…”

@MileSwimmerDude Oh now I remember! I chose the “women can vote” answer. Is that not right? It just seemed doubtful that women could vote, b/c 1) women couldn’t vote during that time, in general and 2) it was the west and men outnumbered women and it seemd like men were the people in charge. but Idk seems like no one else chose that?

@fireonice women could vote in Wyoming

@MileSwimmerDude I think it was tolerance with Indians considering the whole west image… and they were definitely diverse with all those immigrants with the american dream going for gold and building railroads and stuff (like the Chinese)
