May SAT 2011: Writing Section

There was an error right?

What about the ID error question that was talking about the author of this book had main characters go on adventures just like the author and his sister… sorry I don’t remember word for word

I took a completely different approach on the essay. Kind of worried now. I talked about how rules and limitations are set essentially by the people for the people in a democracy and mainly used teenage driving and child restrictions as examples. I essentially made the argument that while rules may be petty annoyances they are created for a reason… not for fun. Thoughts? Im pretty worried

@QwertyNerd i took it in december and got 670,too! 8 essay and 4 wrongs ,no omit

nicojoe - I dont know - the prompt asked whether rules and limitations contributed to peoples overall happiness, not whether they are important or not - your essay seems off topic to me…

3 no errors right?

Guys, any ideas what -3 and a 9 essay would be?

hey guys, do u guys remember the question about [anita was an author and won Academy Award for her portraying this character bhlabhla…]? i thouht “for her portraying” was rather redundant cuz anita was the only subject mentioned and should be changed either to just “for portraying” or “her portrayal of”. i spent so much time on this question, and considering that u guys didnt talk about its being no error, which was what i was going for at first, i think i was right??? please correct me if im wrong

@mangoaddict
i remember that one
can’t remember what i chose thou
but i did eliminate “for her portraying”
do you remember the other choices? or was it not mc?

for the “indeed, researches” the answer did not read include indeed before researchers, it said REMOVE researches and insert indeed… so for those who choose “indeed, researchers” because it seemed like the best transition, it’s actually wrong because such option was not availiable…

@rigren
…what?
remove researchers?

For the paragraph one, did you put delete for the question that asks what best to do with the sentence in the last pargraph?

no, i’m pretty sure it said “indeed, researchers…”

none of the other ones even made sense…

actually, the option read "remover researchers and insert “indeed, researchers” so the only addition would be indeed. that answer was the only option that gave a sufficient transition from the previous paragraph, which is what the question had been asking for. Therefore, that was the correct response.

@Dizzying
yeah same
90% of the questions in this test i got correct were all from eliminating the other nonsense
@DancingBear
yeah i remember deleting the one that said “in my bio class my teacher…blah blah”

yay!
10char

@JBCHUN
I also spent soooo much time on this questino

It’s like someone gained fame and won some award for his portraying Anita blah blah blah …
a: gained fame
b: won
C: for his portraying
I said no error… but a lot of people said for his portraying… I don’t know

for the question about how the something gases smell appealingly like french fries… i think the consensus is that it was no error, as i only circled two no errors on that section, but when have you ever been allowed to modify a sense verb with an adverb? appealingly was not underlined, but smell was. I circled smell because I didn’t know what else to do, but one never says that something “smells appealingly”, it’s that something “smells appealing”.

@any, portraying was the error, it should have been “portrayal”

@dancingbear
what’s 10char
