May SAT 2011: Writing Section

@Dizzying

But “his portraying Anita” is also a noun… I don’t think that’s grammatically wrong.

if you had left it, it would have been “his portraying of anita.” i don’t remember the whole sentence but i’m certain it was incorrect.

There was once a girl named tsen and she was quite an amazing human being, her last name began with char-somthing but I cannot quite remember. Long story short she was a really good CC member but she died in a car accident so we commemorate her by writing “10char” at times.

First of all, whatever moron can manage to remember the name Anita, let alone the portraying of them in a question which is wrong, they’d at least know that Anita’s a girl’s name and to put her in the sentence…lol.

Portraying was wrong because it should be portrayal. There’s a lot of stuff on the SAT that is technically grammatically correct, but since there’s a noun form it’s better to use that than the gerund.

Also, the transition one was from “Researchers” to “Indeed researchers now.”

right, however i used teenage driving limitations such as curfew 0 tolerance etc, and said while we feel that these are annoying they are for the better of societies happiness. Statistics prove deaths on road etc, it is the idea of overall happiness

is there a consolidated list anywhere?

I forgot to do the last 4 questions! So I have no clue what you guys are talking about on some of these questions…sucks so much…whats 4 omitted 2 wrong 11/12 essay approximately? im hoping its at least a 650

So for the writing sections…

I got 3 No Errors:

 1. Louis Armstrong
 2. Meyer Lemon
 3. French Fries Corn Oil

For the Anita Question, I chose “for her portraying Anita” because the gerund sounds awkward and should be “portraying” or “portrayal of.”

Any thoughts/objections?

Does anyone remember the whole question or choices for the french fries one?

idk if anyone noticed but there was a “trick” one in writing that i caught at the last minute. It was the one with the annual cherry blossom in washington DC? The right answer was the one that did not say annual, just in case you guys were wondering. This is because later in the sentence it says yearly, thus making annual/ annually redundant.

@ any it was something like “using corn oil in automobiles will make the exhaust smell like french fries”

oh and smell was a choice…if that helps lol

@satlover

yea, I remember seeing that. all but one of the answer choices had the redundant “annually” in them :P

@sweetpuri yeah it was answer choice C i believe? btw, did you get the one with the suitcase that didn’t fit all the clothing? I’m pretty sure that’s my only mistake in writing.

^^yeah, I also remember that… that one was easy.
I have a question that I asked a few posts earlier… so the question in improving paragraphs that was “I studied the subject of blah blah” I really can’t remember the wording of it… but all what I can remember is that it was wordy so I had to change the subject of to about… some people in earlier posts mentioned that they deleted the sentence because it didn’t correlate with the essay… I think it was really coherent and shifting persons is, in fact, a good way for the writer emphasize and assure his or her point… what do you think?

@Nader i don’t recall deleting any sentence from improving paragraphs. But i think that I moved that specific sentence after sentence 7. I remember that question because the kid studied that subject in his class or something? yeah i moved that one to after sentence 7 i spent a lot of time on that and am pretty confident with my answer.

satlover I was so happy/scared when I found that redundancy, because I felt like eveyr question was trying to pull something on me

@interficio omg me too! That was in the last 10 minute section and I was so excited about leaving that i couldn’t concentrate. When i found the redundancy I was cheering inside.

Am I the only one who got 4 no errors?

Louis Armstrong

Meyer lemon

French fries

energy conservation?
