My daughter is an incoming freshman, and we are trying to select a meal plan. Having trouble discerning meals, MPEs, points, etc. and what will make the most sense. Current students, would you recommend unlimited? 19? 20? What do most freshmen do? Thanks for any help you can provide.
I think it’s best to go for the 19. It depends on the type of eater you are. I personally think that it’s enough
So basically for example if you get the 19 meal plan. you have 19 meals you can spend anytime.
So the way it works is the main dining halls. so Dougherty and Donahue(pit and spit) use 1 meal each time you swipe in to eat.
MPEs are basically meals. If you get a 19 meal plan it doesnt really matter. You can only use 2 mpe per meal period.(breakfast lunch dinner you know the drill) All this means is that you can only get food from special places 2 times for a certain time period
If you eat at special places like cafe nova, holy grounds, belle air, freshens.and etc you use a meal like you would at the dining halls. You buy a smoothie you swipe and use a meal so you go from 19 to 18 meals left for the week.An mpe is a meal. that is all there is to it. uses an mpe and it takes away 1 meal from your amount for the week.
This mostly only affects people on the unlimited meal plan. they are limited to 2 mpes for the day. so they can maybe use a meal to get a coffee in the morning and then a smoothie later during lunch and bam. they can no longer buy from those special places.
Points are like money cash credit etc. use it to buy whatever you want. run outta meals? use points. need shampoo? buy it using points.
Most freshmen are on 19. unless your the bodybuilder who hits the gym hard and need an unlimited plan.
From what I knew, most of my friends were on unlimited. Personally, I think this is easier. It’s not very much more money and eliminates all the hassle with having a certain amount of meals. I guess more girls chose the 19 because they often have food in the room or don’t eat as much, but I know a fair amount have unlimited as well.
