I had to use my CornellCard to pay for dinner at the old Jansen’s once when I didn’t have a meal plan…I remember paying around $12.

Is $500 enough per semester to cover lunch?

Actually, upperclassmen can buy a meal plan to use in the freshmen dining halls, provided it isn’t a “house” meal plan for the west campus dorms. If you decide to move off campus for your sophomore year, you can buy any meal plan you want, including the ones that are typically for freshmen. The only time this isn’t true is if, like I said, you live in the west campus dorms which require you to have a “house” meal plan and only allow you to have 50 outside meals. The problem with a meal plan if you are living off campus is that it is difficult to find people to go eat with, it is more expensive than cooking for yourself, and you probably won’t live anywhere near those dining halls.

I found it was more than enough for me

memphismom: so if you do a 14 meal/week plan and you eat 12 one week, the remaining 2 are essentially wasted? if so, that’s sucky. and if so, when does the week start? i’m guessing sunday…?

i think it’s thursday…

Yeah…the dining week is Thursday to Wednesday. If you don’t use all your meals in the week, you lose them.

I started with 14, shifted to 10 second semester. I never had time to eat breakfast in the dining halls except on weekends. Usually I ate about 9 in dining halls per week, since I used BRBs for lunch. $500 is plenty as long as you spend somewhat wisely. I always had leftover.
