meal plan

i went through a very long thread last night about meal plans...but did not find my answer. I will be coming home for the weekends...hopefully leaving ucla around noon or a bit after. Do you think the 11/week is okay for me? And btw i eat breakfast on most days but usually not very heavy...just a cereal bowl, fruit, yogurt...etc.

Well that depends on whether or not you'll be eating lunch and dinner every weekday as well. If you are, it sounds like you'll need about 13 per week so you'd probably want the 14 meal plan

That is if you're going to eat breakfast in the dorms (a swipe is a swipe no matter how much you eat in the dining halls).
What you can do is sign up for the 11/week and just buy cereal and milk from ralph's for your own room

since i don't eat breakfast normally(yeah I hate 0 period) I should get the 14 meal plan? does it roll over? since I can see myself going to in n out at least twice a week so that leaves only 12 meal a week? also where do you live notorious because I heard we can't take our cars to UCLA how are you gonna go home all the time? im just trying to figure out ways lol so far all I know is I have to take the train but that requires someone else to pick me up at the station...

what happens if you get hungry and you use say 4 swipes in one day? Do you not get one meal later in the week?

If you don't eat breakfast, then the 14 should be more than enough if you don't end up using up swipes at the other eateries at night. If you want rollover, you have to sign up for the premier plans, which are the most expensive of the plans (i.e. 14 premier is more expensive than 19 nonpremier).

And yes sonic, that's what happens unless you sign-up for premier and have roll-overs from previous weeks (if not, your number of swipes will reset every week)

I have a friend who goes home every weekend, too. He has an 11/week meal plan. If you think you will eat more than twice a day, I suggest to get 14.

What would you recommend if you plan on staying on campus virtually 100% of the time accounting for some eating out and extra/skipping meals?

14 Premier or 19 Premier - 19 allows you to eat more than twice a day and swipe in friends or family.

However, at the end of the quarter you will probably find yourself with too many swipes (you can claim the unused swipes for two drinks - Gatorade + water or two soda/drinks). You are obviously not getting your money's worth if you do that. I have a 14 Premier and it's just right for me, even though I swipe in friends are not dorming. I go home about 3-4 times a quarter.

19 is fine if you just eat 2-3 mails a day and everything else you described Charisma. Get 19P if you like the extra midnight snacks, drinks, or burgers/fries.

Thanks :) kjflas

Also, if you get premiere, you can swipe whenever you want, but if you don't have premiere, you can only swipe once per meal period (there's 5 meal periods per day)

How much would it differ by in terms of a year if you bought a basic plan as opposed to a premiere plan?

What are the meal periods?

If you have questions about housing, items to bring to your dorm room, payments for tuition or dorm, housing+meal plans, ... go ahead and go to http://www.housing.ucla.edu Click the ASK button and you'll get redirected to their forum. IDK if you can access the site yet and post new questions. When you do though they reply usually within 24 hours or 1-2 days something. Also, use the search option on that forum.

14 Premiere is sufficient for most people I believe. If you get 19, you end up "guilty" of swiping people at the end of the quarter, taking lots of bottled drinks, or feeling "guilty" if you don't swipe to get some fattening smoothies, burgers, or fries.

most of my friends with the minimum (11 or 10) run out pretty fast. id suggest 14

i believe you can start with too many and then downgrade by a certain date each quarter.
so wouldn't hurt to try 14, see if it's good or too many, and then downgrade to 11 if need be. just keep track of the deadline xD

wait, we're not allowed to bring our own car!?!?!?

I'm sure we can bring a car...but for your first year, do you really want to stress about finding a parking space on top of everything else? Plus it costs a lot of money for a permit =P
