Is the super-sized option ever worth it???

I know of only one person who had the unlimited meal plan. He loved it at first but, but the end of the year, felt it was a waste of money.

I started off with the 14 meal/week plan but I usually had early classes and at my breakfast on the run or grabbed a muffin/coffee on campus. I tended to eat my lunches at the a la carte places such as Ivy Room and Trillium. I went down to the 10 meal/week plan and this worked the best for me. I was able to each dinner 7 days a week as well as Saturday lunch and Sunday brunch.

You can upgrade your meal plan at any time during the year, so my recommendation is to start small and work your way up if your first choice doesn’t work.

Cant you start big w/ a trial then switch down to whatever you want within a certain period?

You have a few weeks at the beginning of the semester to downsize your plan. It’s been a few years since I was at Cornell and I don’t remember exactly. You can check on the dining website or see if a current student on CC can give you better info!

dewdrop87, it is still the same. People can downgrade their plan only at the beginning of the semester. So, the advice is to start small, and upgrade it if you think you need more. I went with 14 meals/week, and I had more than enough.

I had 10/wk and it was wonderful for the most part. I ate dinner every night, lunch on Saturday and brunch on Sunday, plus one extra lunch during the week. The rest of the time, I was free to meet friends for lunch wherever (you’ll end up making friends who aren’t freshmen/don’t have meal plans and don’t want to waste money going to Okenshield’s or Appel or Risley…keep that in mind) and it worked quite nicely, especially on those days I was in a rush and needed to grab something a la carte and get to class. Also, you’ll most likely end up attending club meetings where food is provided, so you won’t need meal swipes on those occasions. I’d have felt bad if I didn’t use all of my meal swipes every week, so 10 was a great choice. The only thing you have to worry about is how many BRBs you spend, especially towards the end of the semester. Since you only have 10 meals a week, you have to plan ahead for the end of the semester when your BRBs will undoubtedly be lower. :S
