I've heard about the amazing Cornell food but I was wondering which meals plan a 2011 student should sign up for. I'm thinking the 14 meals/week one because it's only 100 bucks more than the 10/week one which was what I originally thought about getting. Advice anyone?

I started out with 14 meals a week but then switched to 10 meals a week because some days, I just didn't have enough time to go to the dining halls. Plus, $500 Big Red Bucks is a lot, and with 14 meals a week, you'd have to go to Nasties a lot to spend those BRBs...

14 meals a week is plenty.

14 is good, most people end up switching to 10. Luckily you have a couple weeks to switch at the beginning of the semester and not get charged. It's all about your schedule really.

only get the 14 or unlimited if you eat breakfast

if money isnt an issue and you dont eat breakfast then get 14/meals

$500 seems like a lot....but it is not...the snack bar (aka Nasties) is expensive...me coming from Texas...I did not find it very nice to pay $6 for a cheeseburger ($1.50 jumbo jacks ftw)

where can BRB's be used?
just at "Nasties," (why is it called that btw), or can they also be used at places like trillium?

also, if you are getting finaid, the meal plan included with that is only the basic 7 meals a week, so does that mean i have to pay the extra if i get a more expnsive meal plan?

i thought the finAid was calculated with the 14/week meal plan...but i guess it depends on the amount of finAid...

dining.cornell.edu tells you the places where BRBs are accepted...usually any place on campus...

its called nasties b/c the food is really greasy (mozz sticks, fries, pizza)...but you'll be there after the frat party no doubt!

i don't eat breakfast, but i want to start. do BRB's count towards bagels, cereal bars, etc.? i always eat lunch and dinner. will i be fine with 14 or should i go for unlimited?

If I just keep cereals in my dorm room for breakfast, should I get the 10 meals one? 14 meals seem like a lot...

10 meals with lots of big red bucks is the best way to go.

can you switch your meal plan from one semester to the next? or cancel it?

yup i'm getting 14 meels a week

14 is where most freshmen start. A good number switch down to 10 in Spring term because they have trouble making it to breakfast, and would much rather put the extra $100 to BRBs. You can switch meal plans between semesters, or in the first 3 wks of each semester. BRBs roll over between Fall and Spring semester, but not between years. Meals are refreshed each Thursday, and there is no rollover. BRBs can be used at any of the eateries, which serve anything from bagels and BLTs to Chicken Parm or Chinese cuisine. Meals only work in dining halls, which serve pretty mucuh everything. In my opinion, unlimited is a waste of money. I doubt you will make it to the dining hall more than 12 times a week once you get into the swing of things, and BRBs are way more flexible.
