I was accepted to CU out of state, but got no merit scholarships whatsoever. I know there are people with lower stats than me that got scholarships. Could this be because of my high school cell phone violations? Am I missing something?

This is most likely because you either had poor recommendations or poor essays. A variety of factors, not just your statistics, factor into a scholarship.

Actually, at CU merit aid (which is not much) is pretty much numbers driven. Essays are not even required. Top 25% of OOS student are offered $15K (over 4 years). So it might be worth a conversation with the admissions office.

Hmm…
I am pretty sure I had really good recomendations. They were not even required, but a couple of people actually asked me if they could write me one. I guess my essays could have been bad though.

I really did think they were number driven though.

I called the office today and whoever answere could not even answer my question. He said to keep waiting. I was under the impression that they came 3 weeks after admission, and I got in before Christmas. Oh, well. I can keep waiting.

Are you sure you did not get any merit scholarship from CU? You seem like a lock for the Presidential Scholarship. Have they even sent out notices for those scholarships yet? You could call the Admissions Office about it… That is what i would do…I think maybe the offer for that scholarship is coming. Last year my S was notified he got only the Chancellors scholarship but it came several weeks to a few months after he was officially admitted. I think maybe you just have to be patient. And yes, the scholarship is solely a numbers driven game, has nothing to do with essays, EC’s, recommendations, etc.

your stats are better than mine (like to the tune of 190 pts on sat…) and i got the presidential scholarship a few weeks ago…you should call and get that straigtened out.

My daughter was accepted in early/mid December, got her merit offer (Chancellor’s Scholarship) at the end of December and the honors offer in mid-January. Based on your stats, maybe they are contemplating the Norlin Scholars Program or some other high level scholarship for you - hence the long wait. You should definitely (in my opinion) at least get the Presidential Scholarship or higher. From another post somewhere on here though, someone with lower stats than my daughter got the Presidential and she didn’t so who knows how they decide!

I know, last year students witht lesser stats than my son got the Presidential and he only received the Chancellors. It is a mystery to me how they choose the scholarships. You have to apply to be a Norlin Scholar so you do not get that rewarded automatically.
