benndaman33, scholarships are per year for 4 years!!! Quite a bit of money when you do the math.

I agree. This is a competitive, highly ranked school. I am sure, just as at most places, more goes into determining how to award scholarships than "just" SAT scores. Those kinds of awards at your level are rare, even at lower rated institutions.

wow, that is a lot of money. If i got that much money at such a well thought of university It would be very hard to turn it down. Other schools i'm applying to don't even offer that much merit aide, and most of the merit aide they give I would not receive.

I also received the Presidential's scholarship, with SAT of 1480 and ACT of 34.

i also received the trustee's scholarship...glad to finally see some merit offers coming in

son got provost, 1400, 32, 800M, 600V, SAT2, 800M, 760P, 720W, 8 AP, few ec's.

Trustee's scholarship - 710 M 800 V SAT I

My son received a $17,400 provost special scholarship. He did not check out Case until December when he changed his major to Art History & French with a minor in Studio Art. When he found out he could take his art history courses at the Cleveland Art Museum he was thrilled because he loves the art museum. 1380 SAT, 730 V, 650M, 3.9 GPA, top 10% of his class (he would have taken the SAT again if he had time in order to get a larger scholarship, but we are thrilled with any scholarship - he didn't take it again because other schools had already offered him free tuition with that score and he was able to get into all the Honor's programs). He has received awards for his artwork & has leadership positions, over 300 hrs of community service. Excellent recommendations. He also received an application to apply for the leadership scholarship so he could possibly receive more scholarship money.

When did he get the application for the leadership scholarship? I didn't know they had one at Case.

nemom3, He got an application before he was even accepted which must have been the very end of January.

I received the President's Scholarship ($19,400). Stats: 1/400, 1460 (1550 now), 780/710/700. I'm happy, and I think that with my new scores they might bump me up to the Trustee's Scholarship (based on what I was told on the phone).

i got the application for the leadership scholarship at the end of january too.

oh and woops, my major is biomedical engineering

Question for all Scholarship winners - Were you all in the top 10% of class or better?

yep...i need mor characters so, yes again

Provost's Special Scholarship 17,400!! Biomedical Engineering, 1400, 32 ACT (athlete).

Hi, haven't posted here before, but I have been reading. I got the President's ($19,400). 1430 SAT, 1/300, 32 ACT, athlete, lots of EC's, major in Biology. I've never visited before, but I'm going to the admitted student thing on March 25.

what does a scholarship mean when its over your estimated faimly contribution.

like say for example case cost 40,000 dollars, and your estimated family contributino was 20,000.

say in scenario 1) You get a 10,000 dollar scholarship at case, and they give you 10,000 dollars in financial aid (say 3000 dollar grant, 3000 work study, 4000 loan)

but it doesn't really matter because the amount they gave you for a scholarship is well above your efc which is 20,000.

so say you didn't get the scholarship and your financial need is 20,000 dollars (from 20,000 to 40,000).

they would still cover like 13,000 in grants, 3,000 in work study, and 4,000 in loan.

in both cases you end up with teh same amount of loan after 4 years (16,000 dollars)

so really this is the major point about scholarships. what good are they unless they are below your e.f.c. otherwise the school will give you a financial package that is fair anyways?

they're pretty sweet for a lot of us, that wouldnt' get nearly 20,000 a year. Plus, if you're getting some in work study, this way you get it without having to work. Additionally, many many many people get no financial aid, like myself.
