Miami OH EA 2017

I don’t think any of the bureaucratic details matter–FAFSA, preferred name request–as far as who got a decision last week. Seems like it’s just whether you applied early early and were at the top end of the applications they see in terms of GPA/SAT/ACT, or not. But don’t get down if you haven’t heard, this was just a small first wave–there will be lots more decisions coming out February 1. And there will be more honors, etc. as well I’m sure. Waiting is painful though, as everyone knows…

I got a MyMiami login today, but there is still no info about financial aid/scholarships.

What’s the MyMiami login? Is that something you’re supposed to do if you’ve been accepted or do they send it to you?

Nevermind just saw the email.

Just an FYI- My daughter got her initial financial aid award letter today letting her know about the merit package she will be receiving. It’s pretty close to covering the full cost of tuition (although none of the fees). The letter stated that she will receive another complete financial aid package letter in March with FAFSA information (not counting on any of that aid).

My D received her initial award letter today also. The award amount matched the scholarship grid, so Miami definitely moved up on the list.

I just read my scholarship letter. I was given an amount near the bottom of the award bracket I was in which is slightly disappointing considering that I am above the minimum standards. Although, they did at least give me what they said they would so I suppose I can’t be too upset.

For those that received scholarships was there anything on your portal? We are out of town for another week and do not know if a letter has come in the mail yet.

@sbmry1 No, there is nothing listed in the portal.

@OhioMom6 What are you daughters stats? I’m curious how things are panning out this year vs last with Miami increasing the minimum ACT scores.

@Beachmum1 There is a comparison u can get between 2015 and the 2017 scholarhip grids. I see that there is a 20% increase in scholarship between these two years. Have not calculated the increase in college cost during the same period.
2017 is on the website http://miamioh.edu/admission/merit-grid/

My S got a snail mail with his scholarship today. (21k/year)
Instate, ACT 33, 13 AP’s 3.75 UW, 4.31 Weighted.
One Research publication and presentation at a national conferene.

@Beachmum1 Her composite ACT is a 28, super score is a 30. Unweighted GPA is a 3.98, weighted is a 4.3. She is a dual enrollment student with 6 college courses completed, 4 AP courses and 4 honors courses. She has a good amount of extra curricular activities including some that have State level recognition. President of National Honor Society, Cheerleader, Softball and basketball all with four year varsity. She also participated in Miami’s Bridges program for URM’s. Her merit award was $11,500 annually for 4 years (instate student)

@Pannaga Thanks for the info. Are you instate or OOS? I assume with $21k/yr it’s OOS? Also, I was curious that @OhioMom6 said her D got almost full tuition yet I thought her D’s ACT was 28? We are OOS, ACT 34, 4.0UW, 10 AP’s, leadership, 4 yr varsity sport (Captain), volunterring. She got Honors, but not scholars. She is History/(pre-law) Got snail mail today, $22k/year.

We were relieved to receive a scholarship offer today. 22K in state. This makes his decision more difficult. His 1 and 2 school choices are both offering him fantastic scholarships. I guess it is a good problem to have.

@acke0815 If you don’t mind my asking, is the 22k per year, or for the entire 4 years? Thank you.

My D received her scholarship letter in the mail. Full tuition for OOS. She was admitted into UHP earlier but not UASP for engineering. Super excited for her!

For those of you who received news of your merit scholarship, did it say it on your MyMiami as well?

@TennisMom007. It is per year for a maximum 88k as long as he maintains…

@ 10 chances It did not. The letter came via post only. At least thus far.

@Beachmum1 the tuition for a 2017 cohort is $14,736 for Ohio residents. Receiving $11,500 a year is pretty close to full tuition (almost 80%). Miami uses the superscore ACT so I’m guessing they used her “30” and not the 28 composite. The amount is not broken down into what scholarship amount is for what- the letter reads that …the award was based on a holistic review of her application for admission including GPA, test scores, high school transcript and also reflects her participation in the Miami University Bridges Program…so it’s possible that some of the money was for her participation in the Bridges Program which, btw- I highly recommend that any eligible student take seriously and apply for- yes you have to get recommenders and complete an essay but my daughter had a wonderful weekend experience at Miami and loved meeting the professors and the Dean of the University. Congratulations on your daughter’s award.

@10chances nothing is updated on mymiami yet- that still has the 2016-2017 year & no drop down for 2017-2018
