@SeaTurtle1 @collegeDAD2017 It sounds like both your daughters have an excellent chance to me, the deferral just means that she is put in with regular decision applicants. My S was deferred at South Carolina and he just found out that he was accepted there, so there is hope. But, I totally understand, it is a frustrating wait in the meantime. Please keep updating their status, I’ll be thinking of them. Did Miami ask for mid-year grades or anything to help make a decision?
@SeaTurtle1 @collegeDAD2017 My son was admitted 3.3 GPA, 28 ACT, 4 yr letterman, a lot of volunteer work, leadership and multiple awards. He emailed his admissions counselor a couple of times to inform her of new awards he earned since application as well as to inform her that Miami continued to be his first choice. He visited the school a couple of times and communicated that as well. His admissions rep was amazing and replied back to him promptly. Please keep us posted and good luck.
$23,000 per year for a total of 92 thousand for IN STATE!!!
UASP and Honors
Direct into Farmers
I got my letter in dec but since everyone it posting I will too
ACT: 35
uwgpa: 3.5
wgpa: 3.8
13 APs
President of 3 clubs and LOTS of ec
Reaction: I am so surprised by how much they gave me. This was only scholarships too, no grants (Redhawk Eminence scholarship -$22,000 and UASP- $1,000). I haven’t seen a person in-state get this much. The president called my dad yesterday congratulating me and confirmed my scholarship. And my scholarship statement today confirmed it. It said I only have to pay 6,000 per year including room, board, and tuition.
sorry i meant i got 21,000 for the eminence scholarship and 2,000 for uasp
i didn’t receive any merit aide in the mail but according to the website and things they sent me i should have?!?
lus174, did you have another hook?
Son received his “final” letter with overall merit aid yesterday. Does anyone know if this is really the final for the university merit overall and/or do individual schools such as Farmer’s kick in additional funds or is the final the final and that’s it. Good luck to everybody. Thanks
@lus174 Is UASP (2K) only for business or could be given for ANY program (Major)?
My son got it for engineering ($2K)
My OOS Daughter found out online that she was Accepted on February 1st. We received the actual Welcome Package on Saturday, February 4th. There was no information on a Merit Scholarship (she did not have an ACT score of 27 or better) or Financial Aid so we are hoping for another package at some point with some form of good news because if there is no financial assistance, $45,000 per year (even with a Tuition Promise) is probably going to be too steep a price for us to pay (third child in college with older brother a Junior in another university)…
UASP is only for certain departments; you can see the list on the website.
Can I ask a question of admitted students who have already received notice of their merit awards/financial aid packages? Did you receive this information along with your notice of admission? Or did it come separately? Thanks! We are concerned that our OOS kid won’t be awarded anything, as the notice of acceptance says nothing about $$.
We received admissions and merit money in totally different packages, several days apart. Hope that help. We are OOS. There was no mention of his merit aid in the initial admissions offer (in December).
Thanks so much, kkmabo! Useful to know.
In my experience as a current Miami student in the UASP, students that they want to offer UASP funding to whose major is in CAS but who don’t fit in neatly into any of the other categories are often given Humanities Scholars designation. I wouldn’t be too concerned about whether or not you are in a certain department.
We are in exactly the same boat as you. Spoke to Miami admissions this morning, and they all but said we would not be getting merit money. Really have to decide if $45,000 a year (not including travel from California) is worth it. Also applied to Xavier and were offered fantastic scholarship. Two totally different schools tho. Stressful!
@oneofeight can i ask what your act score was? that they said they are not offering you merit money
ACT was a 24. What we were told is Miami really tries to stick to the merit $ grid on their website (unless outstanding athlete or other great achievements).
My son got accept to the University Academic Scholars program in Farmers business program. Has 1530 SAT (super scored) and a weighted GPA right around 5.0. He got $19k/yr scholarship OOS (tha includes the $2k from UASP). Got to admit, we were expecting more. How does that compare to others?
Final Award letter arrived. In state Honors and UASP. Generous scholarship package equals $23K per year. Includes Bridges, Excellence, Eminence and UASP.
