michigan isnt all about gpa

i have 3.4 gpa and (32 act comp, 35 act math, 800 SAT1 Math, COE) and got in. I saw a lot of people with low gpa high test scores got in too. It's not all about gpa, as long as you take challenging course and get good test scores , you will proabaly get in.

but i guess it is all about test scores...

maybe this year, but you can't assume every year is the same....last year's results were COMPLETELY different as is evidenced on CC threads....congratulations to everyone accepted (especially all of the NJ admits!! there were alot of you last night!!!)

I agree with exarcun. I think a lower gpa will be dismissed if the applicant has a tough course load. Although, I still think gpa is the main factor.

On the other hand, I had lower test scores than most, but a perfect um gpa.

Interesting, although really surprise to see alot of oos accepted since so many students on here said you need a outstanding GPA to get accepted oos. Although this is a list of maybe 20 acceptances out of thousands ( but I'm sure this could be a reflection of the acceptance pool).

a lot of students on this board just talk out of their you-know-what. nobody here really knows what's going on in side the admissions office's head!

coolbrezze: like I said, looks very diff for OOS this year....maybe UMich realizes that they will need more of the higher tuition paying people this year to make up for the economic woes.....or maybe we are just seeing a small sample, but you can see for yourself on last year's threads that the OOS stats this year are definitely lower. Not to say all these kids shouldn't have been accepted; more like last year was the anomaly.......

i have almost the same stats as op and i got deferred
i'm at a loss as to what they're looking for this year

3.4 UM gpa
33 act 2140 sat
very rigorous courses all 4 years and an upward trend
instate

i am instate btw just to clear up lol. horrible sophomore year because was school transferring.
i had like 2.9 sophomore year and 3.8 junior.

My sophmore year was horrible also, but I didn't fall below a 3.0 in any of the four marking periods. I think the lowest GPA for the marking period I got was a 3.3, and to know that my last semester of 9th grade I got all A's.

Currently a junior

I'm OOS and got in with a 3.4 gpa and 30act but i'm from South Africa so i'm sure that worked in my favor.
However, I wasn't accepted to UMN which was my safety. What a joke. Just shows that UMich looks at more than just your stats.

Agree with Rodney. So far this year seems different than last year. My S. had 3.6-3.7 GPA and a 31 ACT, OOS, was defered, then waitlisted. Most of his EC's were similar to many that have been admitted thus far. Maybe last year was an anomalie but sure did put a horrible taste in many applicants mouths. I thought Michigan's handling of the whole process was despicable last year and hope my D has no desire to apply when her time comes.
