I was deferred from Cornell for basically 2 reasons (according to an admissions director) 1. HEOP delivered my app. on the last day of decisions 2. They wanted to see how I was doing in senior year.
Will these grades be good enough?

AP Gov't- A (97)
AP Bio - A- (90)
AP Calculus- B- (81) < Problem?
Coll. Eng- A- (91)
Wind Ensemble- A (100)
Mixed Choir- A (100)

My GPA should increase from a 94.9 to a 95.2
Rank should still stay in top 5%
Guidance Counselor making phone call
I'm writing a letter
I'm forming a club directly related to my major

Is this good enough, it seems that Calculus is a low grade for many applicants.

thanks a lot, and what a cool major! If it makes you feel better, I got an 83 in Calculus this year, and that wasn't much of a problem. I bet it was the fact that it was the last day that did you in

yeah I think so too. Well that really wasn't my fault, so I shouldn't be penalized for it, right? Anyway, the admissions director said that he believes (although unofficial) that my worst-case scenario would be a guaranteed transfer. And honestly, I think that might be better than an acceptance to me. I mean I would save $30,000, probably have a higher GPA, and I wouldn't have to take that AWFUL swim test. I'm really athletic, but my one fear in the world (along with snakes) is swimming/water. Haha, I would really love a GT.

That is really unfortunate (the fact that they reviewed it so late). Your grades look fine to me, I doubt the one B will detract from all of your A's. I didn't know you could talk to an admissions director about the reason for a decision.... Good luck!

well I met him at Cornell's MVP, and we have kept in contact. He was really open with me, and he really wants me to get in. Thank GOD I met him! Lol

i wouldnt trust too much what the admissions director said if he told you why you didnt get in. i believe its the policy of a majority of schools to not respond to rejected/deffered applicants when asked. i may be mistaken but you should be careful. also, with the stronger rd pool, youre gonna have to come up with something better than good midyear grades to get you in after a defferal

During MVP, admissions directors really open up. While I was there this fall(MVP), the director of admission was a great help to me and I am sure that she pushed for me.

ehhh question... i was under the impression that Mid-Year Report doesn't include grades...... i looked at the form... it didn't ask for grades, just an evaluation basically....

Beefs, why would an admissions director lie? Maybe if I never met him/her, but I have kept in contact with the one who gave me this information. Plus, it has been known in the past the this error does occur with EOP/HEOP. Anyway, I have more than good grades for my mid-year. I really wouldn't mind a guaranteed transfer anyway, I mean thats a $30,000 savings! Can anyone else clarify whether or not our senior grades are seen?

Also most MVP kids that applied to CALS for some reason or another were deferred. Most early acceptances this year were for bio. So the adcom said many MVPers still have a "strong" chance in RD.

ya im gonna go ask her T-T but she is such a sweet lady i doubt she will tell me anything else other than don't worry...

-o- that's why i just want them to see my GPA and such... because i doubt my rank will drop to the 20s because of a C... and im taking a hardcore college math class.. which our school is counting it for 2 semesters!!! that's like 2 A's~~~ ^^ so it should help with my GPA... ahhhh Spanish >>

forgive me... i think i just got out of control,.,,

grantortue, i understand that as a college applicant you have to be optimistic if your gonna maintain sanity. ive done it too and now that im in college i feel the need to be realistic.im not telling you your gonna get rejected, but if you have less than perfect stats and you were deferred ed even as a minority, then you should realize that applying to other colleges is the most important thing to do at the moment.

the fact that your app was delivered on the last day definitely hurt your chance of getting in. If they tell you that they want to see how you are doing in your senior year, your grades are simply amazing.

But are you not applying to other universities?

for a school like Cornell, nobody can really say for granted that they are in. I know amazing people who are rejected.......
