I was recently contacted by a Middlebury College Alum. Is that a good thing? I’m not sure if the fact that they contacted me is Todd or bad.
*good or bad
Most liberal arts colleges offer interviews. These days they are usually with alum although adcons conduct the interview in some schools. For those using alum, the interviews typically don’t carry much weight in terms fo decision making… Sometimes there are not enough alum providing interviews to cover all applicants. For most schools, whether a student gets an interview or not is a chance event rather than a sign of anything good or bad.
Every applicant who lives within range of a willing alumi volunteer is offered an alumni interview. This has no bearing on the strength of your application.
@pepperpotz : I’m an alum interviewer (the programme is called the Alumni Admissions Programme, AAP - you can read about it here: http://www.middlebury.edu/admissions/aap).
I don’t know about other schools, but Midd does take the interviews seriously - as they should, mine take 2-3 hours apiece when you include scheduling and writing up out of our busy lives. What I say to all the applicants is that the interview is an opportunity to be 3D compared with the application pack, and to really allow an alum to get to know why you’re applying. Prepare like a job interview, be on time, and dress appropriately.
Good luck!
Hi! I also just got contacted but I’m applying ED2 and I heard that the interview deadline was on Jan 21? Should I be concerned?
@collegesenior123 I’d get back to the person who contacted you asap. Good luck!
Thanks for the update and good luck! Crossing fingers there’s still a chance my D will receive a call for one.
@Aussiemom : I’d have your daughter contact Admissions and find out what’s going on.
