haha it would be really cool if it was an error and everyone got deferred and they messed up setting it as accepted…but that probably didnt happen. But it seems like we all got deferred…

Does anyone know what the odds are of getting in after getting deferred ED?

this sucks. wow. I can’t believe how many of us got deferred. I thought interest would for sure be in.

i read somehwere that 10-20% deferred applicants get accepted regular.

With all the oddities of admissions this year (and last), I would be surprised if Midd and other schools did not take MORE deferred candidates from the ED1 pool in the spring — that is, they will likely take more than is typical as schools are wanting more and more students who want to be at their first choice, and want to push the number of students they take from the ED pool. Time will tell, but don’t give up hope.

I really wish that were the case NorthCountyCat, but then why wouldnt the admissions people take us now, when they know we would go to Midd for certain? I am usually an optimist, but sometimes its important to be a realist-- and our chances of regular acceptance arent high. THey arent necessarily low, but they arent high either.

accepted! now, time to drink…

IllDuggy-- sure hope you’re talking coffee this time of day!

As for ED Deferrals… certainly I have no insight into Midd’s thinking or practices here, however, it is my understanding that ED candidates are often the tippy top of academic performers, legacies, URM and recruited athletes (AND sometimes kids are a combination of some or all of those). And… if you aren’t rejected outright, you have a fairly good chance of being accepted regular decision. The rule of thumb of ED is if they would absolutely accept you regular decision than accept the kid ED. If there might be some reservation or need a little more info - defer. The other thing is, once you get through all the above candidates, where is admissions in filling out the class? 35%, 25%? According to the Middlebury Campus (school newspaper) 45% of the 2014 class was filled ED (which seems to fit with last year’s numbers if I recall correctly).

While I encourage anyone deferred to let go of the love slightly, I wouldn’t have encouraged my kid to give up completely. I agree it’s frustrating because flat out denial gives you a better opportunity to let go and move on. On the other hand, now you will really have an opportunity to review all your choices once decisions are made. Sometimes it’s just a matter of showing them a really strong finish to this first semester of senior year (mid year report). Kick butt and show them they’re crazy not to take you! If you’ve been slacking since you sent in the ED application… well, that’s probably not going to be good.

haha funny illDuggy because I drank for the opposite reason. And no, not coffee

Modadunn,

I haven’t seen any numbers specific to Midd, but from what I’ve read about other LACs, URMs comprise a SMALLER percent of the ED applicant pool than they do during RD, probably because of the greater need to compare financial aid packages. Nevertheless, some LACs accept a number of URMs early through binding programs such as Questbridge and Posse. Not sure if these are counted as ED applicants.

I’m not applying to middlebury, but 6 kids at my school applied ED: 5 admits (some February) and 1 defer. The defer & 2 of the admits were recruited athletes, and 1 of the admits was double legacy…the other 2 admits were unhooked (no athlete, URM, legacy, 1st gen, etc.).

So my school’s senior class of 100 kids somehow got 5 spots ED.

Anyway, to all those deferred (I think most of you who’ve posted?), good luck in the rest of the process, whether you end up at middlebury or at another great school!

anxious Yale SCEAer who has to wait 3 more days

yeah i was a recruited athlete, wouldnt have gotten in without it

Out of curiosity, if you apply ED I for Middlebury and you are deferred, can you be considered for ED II and RD, or just RD?

Just RD, unfortunately.

defer too. yay.

accepted! I am excite.
