Min. Requirements for Mech. Eng. @ Cal Poly Pomona

Was wondering what would be the minimal requirements to apply for an engineering degree at a Cal Poly Pomona? Thanks in advance.

As an undergraduate? You need to meet the CSU requirements, see link: http://www.csupomona.edu/~admissions/undergraduate/freshman/requirements-deadlines.shtml

Since ME is an impacted major, additional requirements are needed:
http://www.csupomona.edu/~admissions/advising/impacted-majors.shtml?nav=undergrad

Ok, thanks. I’m a Junior right now so I think I have some time left. If I meet the min. requirements on the ACT / SAT, would A’s and B’s in regular classes be enough for consideration? I have no AP classes or Honors on my resume.

Since each year the applicant pool gets more competitive, you not only want to meet the minimum requirements, you want to exceed them to give yourself a good chance for acceptance. You will be competing with many applicants that may have up to 10-12 AP and Honors classes, which will put you at a disadvantage. Are AP and Honors classes offerred at your school? Admissions wants to see course rigor especially for the Engineering majors. It is possible to get into CPP without AP/Honors courses, but maybe with less impacted majors. You would need to get a competitive SAT or ACT to compete with other applicants. I suggest you shoot for an SAT of 1800+ or ACT of 27+.

Good Luck and repost when you have completed your Junior year. Here is a link to calculate your CSU GPA:

If you had taken AP/Honors classes, the CSU GPA calculator would have given 8 extra points…

Beyond the minimum requirements, you will want to ensure that your high school course selection includes math through precalculus at least (take calculus if you complete precalculus in 11th grade or earlier) and high school physics and chemistry, since high school math and science preparation is essential to prepare for college math and science in the engineering curriculum. In addition, be sure to have good English writing skills so that you will not have to take remedial courses.
