Miscellaneous Life Ramblings

To change the subject (so that the youth among us don’t think we’re all lushes…), has anyone watched the dark reboot of the Archie series called “Riverdale”? It’s so bad it’s (almost) good?

I watched the first episode. It wasn’t bad…just very disconcerting for an Archie comics fan.

I’m usually found with a artic-cold martini garnished with a twist and three colossal jalapeno-stuffed olives in my hand (that’s dinner), but I have been joining ChoatieDad in his Manhanttans lately as I, too, am a sucker for the gourmet cherries. Also, he’s been using cherry bark vanilla bitters from Bittercube lately (amazing), so watch for bourbon stock to rise.

That ship sailed long ago.

@ChoatieMom – have you tried high-end tonic water? I love gin and tonic with Q-Tonic.

I feel so puritanical. I can make a bottle of three-buck-Chuck last 3 months.

I could make it last forever - you get what you pay for

I guess your hipper and cooler than me, @skieurope. And definitely younger.

Sorry, your redirect just isn’t working, @SevenDad.

@ChoatieMom That must be an interesting subsection of your retirement spreadsheet.

@doschicos: Sigh. Right now, I’m not so much on a hard liquor kick as I am into sour beers right now. I particularly like the Gose-style beers being put out by Anderson Valley Brewing Company — the Briney Melon above all.

This is the only thread I can handle reading right now…more suggestions, please!!

An oldie but a goodie. Successfully got me choked up here in the office this AM (which I needed after the USPS notification thread antics).

@SevenDad … thanks! Right there with you…plus breathing into a bag…lol

@buzzn03: Fingers crossed for you/your kid to get good news on M10.

FWIW, I have zero dogs in the fight this round, but would still have the POV I do on the “find out if we’re getting a package” if I did.

I guess it’s not that I care how others do it…I’m a rule follower by design, so would never peek at my presents early, etc…but I don’t fault others for being that way. I don’t understand it, but to each his own…I just wish they would think of others’ feelings and interpretations of this information before they broadcast it…sigh. Video was perfect, though…I love BenFoldsFive. Trying to keep my mind on the mundane and not what everyone else is doing at this point!!!..Bartender!!!

Mexican Mule: Good (or at least decent) tequila, Fever Tree Ginger Beer, and fresh lime juice to taste. =P~

Fuzzy balls: 4 parts Fireball, 1 part orange juice, 1 part peach schnapps. Shake with ice, strain into a shot glass and enjoy!

In addition to having zero willpower, I am also a pretty big rule-follower (strange combo, no?) so the USPS/FEDEX thing irks me (obviously). Glad I could add some levity (via Ben F.) to your day.

Here’s another Ben song for you:

@SevenDad you probably saw this long ago, but for the benefit of others:

Here’s a question…do the AOs have to have the discussion of who they’re going to accept DESPITE their parents? :)) I’m thinking they might after reading some of these threads…Hahaha. I wish I could say my DS is nothing like me, but he’s been cursed with the DNA!

@buuzn03 - I know you were kidding, but the answer, in fact, is yes! Schools are essentially bringing a family into the community, not just the kid. And if parent(s) leave a strong impression during the application process that they likely will be difficult to please, frequently calling, questioning policies/rules, debating grades, etc. and are likely to take up a lot of the faculty’s/advisor’s/coach’s/admin’s time and energy, it is entirely possible for a great kid to not be admitted because of the parents.
