well i just found out my school is ranked two in the state.. if you're counting from the bottom.. ^.^ so that should help me....
I never thought that our school was THAT bad cuz we send atleast one student to harvard and MIT every year, it's better than other schools around here....

My school is pretty bad too:

33% go to four year colleges
33% go to community colleges
33% drop out or can't graduate

Though we send a couple of students to the Ivies (and Stanford) each year.

My school is worse. We are lucky if we send 20% to four-year universities. Also, NO ONE goes to the Ivies (or MIT). Ever. (hopefully that will change with me!)

Someone this year got into UC Berkely, and everyone was like "oohhh my!! you got into Berkeley?#?%#???!! Impossible!"

"well i just found out my school is ranked two in the state.. if you're counting from the bottom.."
Hmm...is that Cali? Cause if so, then my school might be ranked #1.

^
You guys are pathetic.

I can't believe you guys are trying to see who has the worst-rated school.

You guys shouldn't be proud of going to low-rated schools.

This isn't a game.

You guys sound very selfish and don't deserve to get into MITES with that kind of behavior.

Yikes!

I don't hate my school (in fact there are some aspects of it that I REALLY like - such as a program that allows us to take college classes instead of a 5th and 6th period).

And I'm not proud of going to my school because it's low-rated. If I had a choice of which high school to go to around here, it would be the one I'm at right now. Gee willickers. Comparing schools does not make us unworthy of MITES.

calculus09, did you apply for MITES?

You are taking this too seriously. Chill, dude. No where did we indicate that we were "proud" of going to bad school. Heck, is it our fault that we had no other choice but to go to our school? Come on, we are talking about public schools... (you have no choice). We are merely explaining disadvantages and problems plaguing our schools, nothing more.

What's it to ya?

Uh....it's called conflict of interest.

Yeah, pretty much. There are a lot of good things about my school (great teachers, early college program, diversity). But the subject was on rankings - and well... i'm not gonna lie.

OK, let's move on. calculus09 had a point: i don't feel like I deserve MITES (not because of my selfishness tho). My grades are getting progressively worse and I don't have many ECs. But I suppose I have a lot of potential, and since that's what this program is all about... I feel better now.

I think I'm gonna be one of those few people who goes to MITES but gets rejected from MIT lol (maybe I can alter that if I radically change right now!). I think I'm getting a C in AP US history this semester (yikes! but it's my first C...).

Is MIT your top school, y'all? At the moment, MIT and Harvard are my dream schools, but Caltech, Berkeley, Dartmouth, and Carnegie Mellon are close.

EDIT: cool. I took such a long time making this post that by the time I posted it, there were 2 more posts i hadn't seen before

"What's it to ya?"
Well, you seem very passionate about the greatness of this program and you kinda seemed to come out of the blue with that fiery post about us...so I was curious whether you are even are part of this. that's all.

Haha, I feel kinda guilty too if I get accepted. Although I go to a crappy school and have somewhat crappy grades, and somewhat URM, I am not economically disadvantaged. That's why I didn't put my family's income lol

DANG Ouraqt!
You didn't have to get all defensive when I called you pathetic.
By the way, you guys are still pathetic for not admitting that you're pathetic.
I can't believe you guys are in denial.
How pathetic...

The repetition of the word "pathetic" in your language contributes to your ironic tone...AHH!! AP English Lang!

Sry 'bout being defensive. Now tell me: DID you apply for MITES?

Off topic: Here's what's going through my mind right now:

1) It's 12:40 PM. I need to finish my homework.
2) MITES is gonna be sweet!
3) I procrastinate a LOT!
4) Harvard is dang impossible to get into. Only ~9% of everyone who has already cured cancer gets in!
5) I can't believe I'm talking to people across the country who I will soon meet in person.
6) I'm never gonna be able to pay for MIT. Thank God for MITES being free.
7) Does Taiwanese count as a minority? Is there even such a thing as Taiwanese, or is it part of China?

Lol. #7 was part of my essay (essay #3 on the application). And I quote, verbatim,

"The most prevalent issue I’ve faced as an Asian American is my uncertainty of my ethnonym. My father (who I’ve never met) emigrated from the islands of Taiwan, which are governed by the Republic of China. More commonly known as “Taiwan” (after the island it governs), the Republic of China asserts independence from the People’s Republic of China (or simply China). Mainland China, however, claims that Taiwan’s governmental hold on the Taiwanese islands is illegal, and China is the rightful owner of Chinese Taipei. The American Institute in Taiwan defies the One-China Policy and attempts to maintain peaceful diplomacy between the People’s Republic of China and its rebellious outpost. The political situation in the Taiwan is more confusing than the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis."

^I can't believe I was accepted with that^

Also: I agree. Some aspects of me ARE pathetic. For example, I often write essays on the morning they are due (but then I get an A and everything turns out fine - I guess I work better under pressure). Also, I still periodically have to look down at the keyboard when I type. Also, I've been trying to learn piano by myself for over a year now and thus far, I haven't really progressed.

I guess you didn't understand me the first time:

What's it to ya?

lol i'm procrastinating a lot too....this thread is distracting me from my homework!!!!

@ Calc

What's it to ya to be in this thread late at night?

friedrice,

1) Never EVER use my catchphrase again!
2) I don't sleep.

Lol. I don't really sleep either.

I just realized that for most of you, it's probably later than 12:53 (the time over here).

Hahahahahhahaha

It's an all nighter for me tonight. Procrastination FTW.

I'm in the west coast too. It's 12:54 right now.

Cali? If so. where?

"Hahahahahhahaha"

I know, I know. Looking back at that, I'm like... WTHeck was I thinking?

No, Washington State....hopefully I get accepted today...i'm gonna check in the mail once I come back from school
