For those of you who have gotten acceptances is there a deadline for when you must reply to the decision?

The deadline is this Friday eek. I think they may be waiting to hear from people and then move people up from the waitlist. That may the reason for the lack of rejection letters.

but didn't akybaky say that everything was mailed? Doesn't that include the rejection letter?

hmm that makes me worried, cuz i haven't gotten anything. oh gosh..

me too....

^^ that makes three of us

well, lets get it over with on monday!

Well so far 5 people are known to make it on CC for this years MITES.

Ouraqt
rosee09
NICA4LYF
Shadman

& me.

let's make that list wayy longer...

^.^

hopefully tomorrow it will happen

yeah......just waiting for it...

It's kinda strange there are NO rejection letters yet....

I think rosee09 might be right. Perhaps they are waiting to here from us (the accepted people) to see if we can't go - then they will take people off the waitlist. Perhaps "they mailed everything" means "they mailed the acceptance letters" (after all, that IS everything to me lol).

Anyway, it seems like this year there weren't as many applicants? The letter says I was selected from a pool of over 400, but isn't it usually like 1000 (ugh. I suppose 1000 IS over 400)? no wonder I got in

"Note to Fly-ins: I'm not sure if you noticed my previous post, but the lady who called us was misinformed. Yesterday, after receiving a call saying that I was a fly-in, I was accepted into MITES. So I hope to see some of you fly-ins at MITES!"

Wait, some people are being flown in by MITES? Is this only for people somewhat nearby?

Wait, there's only 400 applicants??????????

My chances are getting better every minute!!!!!!!!1

It says "over 400" IIRC, which I assume means a little over 400.

That's still better than 1000 applicants!!!!!!!

Assuming there were about 400 applicants, the admit rate this year would actually be higher than MIT undergrad (unless they accepted less people this year).

I've heard that from past years, there were about 600-800 applicants. Why would there be a significant drop in applicants?

hey you guys, i was noticing that...
some of the people getting accepted to MITES are gods, others were ok, and others that just arent up like those people (dont FLAME on this, please), so no one should get "****ed" as it the selection process is pretty weird, though it appears that they pay main attention to essays and letters. im gonna blame my tihng mainly on the fact that my science teacher wrote me a letter of rec on the last day (i didnt think hed be a procrastinator), my math teacher was pregnant and i had to get a rec lett from my alg 2 teacher, and my councelor wrote a normal letter.

so guys, idk, ill see you at the fly in. anyone from S FL going to the fly in? maybe we can meet up at the airport, if ur going to the FT Lauderdale one

Uhhh I think people don't understand the mission of MITES. Unlike RSI or SSP, MITES aren't looking for top students with 4.0 GPAs, perfect SATs, and godly ECs. MITES is a recruitment program for minorities with interests in science and engineering. MITES emphasizes students who come from difficult backgrounds whether it be economically, socially, or academically. They are especially looking for African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans. They also take in account for family income, students from poor performing high schools, and first generation students.

MITES are for students with potential, not from what they have already accomplished.

either im really bad then, but i think my stats are pretty good (only thing that mightve kept me were my outdated psat scores, but the math one is basically the mean of past years), im basically poor, hispanic, no parents going to college ever, C high school, first generation. i have everytihng. -_-. though they had a problem with me sending the app kind of late, it was on the deadline
