Hi!
I'm applying to MITES too.
I love physics! My physics class this year got me interested in enjeneering, which is why I really wanna go to MITES for the summer! Good luck to everyone that applied :)

OK, so I have a question. I took the PSAT my sophmore and junior year. For my sophmore year, my score was higher in math (75 vs 69). But my other scores were pretty bad (41 for reading, 75 for math, 51 for writing sophmore year and 53 for reading, 69 for math, and 64 for writing). Neither of them is really that good, but I'm hoping they see that I'm improving english fast because I've only been learning it for 4 years. I also took the ACT, which turned out better (31 composite, 35 math, 29 eng, 30 reading, and 31 science). So, which scores should I send? all three? or just ACT? or just one PSAT? lol I do realize this is the last day but if anyway can help, it would be great

You can list both the PSAT and ACT scores, as indicated on the application form. I would send copy of the ACT

no problem petri....

but im really nervous too so im gonna keep my mouth shut till april lol and leave it in gods hand be back then to let you kno if i made..

fingers double crossed LOL byeee

Made it into mites****

And now, we wait. o_o

we'll know by april right?

I'm looking forward to the Genomics and Calculus classes. They sound really interesting.
And petri, my awesome physics teacher really made me love physics too and I never knew how much I would like it!
@ Emmanuelcaro-I think it's april, thats what it was last year.

@ melody

me too! I didn't really expect much from physics but now I love it! and i plan to take physics C next year :D. I'm not sure if I'll get into the program (my scores are definitely not the best) but I figured its worth a try C:

Hey guys, just dropped off my application, really hoping to get in and hopefully see some of you guys there. My 65 math PSAT and 66 CR seem to not stray too far from the averages of previous MITES students so I hope I get in.

Sent in my application 2 days ago. Any Virginians on CC apply to MITES?

mikester, we have similar psat scores. My math is the same as yours, but my reading is a couple of points higher. But you're right, they seem to be about average for MITES, so hopefully we both get in!

I got mine in at the last second. We put it in the mail around 8:40 and last pickup is at 9:00. I had to get my entire counselor recommendation today. I should have asked before, but how was I to know we'd have four snow days? (I officially love my counselor. Most people will not do that for you.) I wrote my essays really quickly, and they seemed easy because I'd written a +5000 word story over the weekend and I did the TASP application last week, which had much, much longer essays.
I'm worried I might seem too privileged to get in. I go to public school, but mine is on the Newsweek top 100, has all well above average stats. My father was an engineer, which makes it seem like I have way too much access to math/science. guess I sort of do. Not ever kid grows up with ever mathematical constant there ever was an arm's length away (My father has so many old college books). My parents have an income above $50,000, my mother went to an Ivy league school for undergrad and has a Master's.
Also, I had to print my 11th grade report card and there are two C's on it for Calc BC (No C's on my transcript, these were midterm and quarter grades). I don't know how my math teacher could have written a glowing review of me with those grades. My ACT scores were just average (30 composite, 32 English, 27 math).
My PSAT scores were really good though- 226, M 74, CR 72 (low for me), W 80. And I am black, so maybe that'll help. Ehhh, I just don't want to think about it.

Does anyone know if we can inform MITES of our SAT scores once we get them? I took the January SAT, so I'll have mine very soon.

I don't know, I heard they don't let people send in stuff after the deadline because everyone else would wanna do it too. But you should still email them and check if you can still send them.

hey would computer animation/ computer science be part of engineering?

i don't think animation would be

well i know it uses computer science but in the Penn SAAST summer program computer graphics falls under engineering and applied science.

im so nervous

about what? getting into MITES?

Hi,
I applied to the MITES program for Summer 2009 and I dont think my PSAT scores were good enough. I took the SAT in January and those scores were way higher than my PSAT. Either way I am worried about whether or not I will get in.
My Stats:
Black (non American: Born in Jamaica)
5.233 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted)
PSAT: CR 62 MA 62 WR 61 (my SAT is so much better!)
Activities: SGA for two years, NHS, Mu Alpha theta (math club), National Ocean Sciences Bowl competitor, Crew (rowing) team member, Interact.
I currently am taking 4 AP and have taken 3 dual enrollment classes (college credit courses at a college)
I have all A's
One of my parents didnt attend college and the other attended for two years
My school is in the top 50 for US Newsweek top schools.

I dont know..I think I am fine academically except for PSAT...that was a horrible day for me so i dont know. What do you guys think? Do I still have a shot even with my horrible PSAT scores?
