MIT MITES Summer 2014

YAY for extensions!

AmarintheD, you said you’re willing to revise essays? May I have your email for that?

Amaranthine@linglink.com

I am interested to see if most of you guys have made use of the last essay? I know it says it is optional but I feel like I should do it. I recently got an internship through my school at a local software company and I am wondering if writing about my experiences so far in the internship would help me out? Any advice?

Also, I touched on this internship in the “Work & volunteer experiences.” I gave a brief summary about what the internship has taught me. Nothing more than 3 sentences. Should I expand on this in the 6th essay? Advice is much appreciated.

I wasn’t planning on writing anything for the last essay just because I don’t have anything to write about. If you feel it is important for them to know about your experiences with this internship then go for it. It can’t hurt to include it especially if what you write shows more about you and your interests.

@emywemy610 Thanks for your input. The prompt says “Is there any other information you would like to share with us that is not presented elsewhere in your application? (Optional).” I am certain if discussing my internship would qualify as sharing information not presented elsewhere in my application because I did mention it in the extracurricular section. What do you think of that? Thanks for your help!

Well, if you didn’t have space and would like to elaborate, that’d be fine. Most students discuss school or family circumstances, but I don’t think yours would be amiss. Good luck.

@jcarlosg18 You said you wrote a brief summary of the internship in the application, but didn’t the application say not to do that?

Anyone mind chancing me? I would really appreciate it!

hey guys quick question! when they ask you to calculate your gpa using their scale, what do you put if your gpa is higher than a 4.0??? help is greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!

Is that weighted or unweighted?

neither? im not sure lol when they ask you to count all A’s as 4.0 B’s as 3.0 C’s as 2.0 etc. and get the average of all of the grades on your transcript, I did that and got above a 4.0 but Im not sure what to put down because the highest option on the pull down menu is a 4.0

@poindexter15 I would recalculate because I think it is mathematically impossible to get higher than a 4.0 using their scale.

@emywemy610 What do you mean? I am confused by what you are saying.

@emywemy610 Never mind, I just realized what you are talking about, thanks for letting me know! Your help is appreciated.

We can’t really help you, so ask your school.

When taking into account first-semester grades and recalculating GPA, do I count credits for classes as if I had already completed the year or am I supposed to halve the number of credits for full-year courses? For instance, if I’m taking like math honors this year and it’s worth 5 credits through the whole year, then do I count it as 2.5 credits when calculating GPA, or is it still 5 credits?

Lurker here deciding to post :</p>

Man, I don’t think I stand much of a chance against you guys…
@Apdenoatis: doesn’t the transcript of your school provide both wGPA and uwGPA? You shouldn’t need to calculate anything for it.

Also, for any previous applicants… when do we get notified… and is it usually by mail or email? Thanks!

@Korcha school transcripts are only released to students in my district at the end of the year, but I guess I could ask my counselor for it.
