MIT MITES Summer 2014

@poindexter15 I emailed the MITES app email that is provided. It was a really small mistake, so I guess they didn’t see a problem in correcting it; so, if your mistake was small also (mine also happened to not be my fault) then I’d suggest emailing them as soon as possible.

Yes, last year they said they had over 2000+ applicants, so less than 4% get MITES…worse than MIT admissions. Not great…

MOSTEC takes around 100 kids. E2 had 75 kids this year and MITES had 78.

Wow, so they don’t even fill up all the slots O_o

XD there aren’t really a set number of slots, they will admit as many or as few as they take to make a class though :confused: they give a range of about 80 students for E2 and MITES though.

@Apdenoatis

Where are you from in New Jersey? I live in Burlington County, and I applied for MITES as well.

@eudotong I’m in Middlesex County.

Just saying, as a MITES '12 alum and a current MIT student. MITES was wonderful, but if you don’t get into MITES or RSI or other summer programs, don’t despair! I have met several wonderful and brilliant students here who were rejected from MITES and other programs. Yes, MITES is helpful, has a good reputation, and awesome staff, but you’ll be okay even if you don’t get in.

Best of luck to all of you! Don’t stress while waiting, just enjoy high school and continue being awesome :D

LOL one high achieving hispanic student was rejected from all three MITES programs but has likely letters from Yale, Dartmouth, Williams, Brown, and a regents offer from Berkeley so far XD.

That’s both reassuring and terrifying at the same time lol

liveforscience hit the nail on the head. My brother goes to MIT right now in the class of 2016, but he was rejected from MITES when he applied. The admissions personnel are different, and the criteria probably differs a bit as well. Regardless of the decision we get, we should all keep our hopes up and remember that we are all brilliant students in our own ways.

XD i know another african american kid who is super brilliant and won math competitions, and was rejected from all three as well, but accepted into MIT, Caltech, and UChicago EA.

I am just curious about the success of MITES alumni in the various research competitions.
Do they commonly become semi-finalists/finalists at Siemens and Intel?

None from E2 this year and I don’t think it’s very common. One reason I think is because the kids who usually enter those competitions are (Asian. LOL JK kinda), well-off and in areas with a lot of opportunities. Most of the time, they either go to highly-ranked schools that set them up with those opportunities, or, I know a few finalists who go to private programs(very expensive) that set them up with mentors and labs.
MITES and E2 target kids who are very smart, but may not have had a chance to enter things like that so far. MIT is the place for research! ;)

Five more E2ers in to MIT on Friday, making our total 17-18 I think(some people don’t stay in contact so idk what happened to them.)

Unfortunately, a bunch of us, including me, also got rejected…it kinda sucks XD.

@AmaranthineD
I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t get accepted by MIT. I have followed this thread and you have been so enthusiastic and supportive and it is obvious how passionate you were about MIT. What other options are you considering now?

@planner03, all the OEOP program kids love MIT and feel MIT as a second home for the rest of their life, whether or not we attend college there. :slight_smile: It’s a privilege to even go there and study there for a little bit and experience a part of MIT that not even the college students there experience. The part that hurts is that all of my best friends from the program got in and will be living it up there XD.

Most of the colleges haven’t even gotten back yet, the real decisions start next week, so I’ll keep you updated on wherever I do end up getting in/choosing XD

@AmaranthineD I’m sorry to hear this, best of luck to you and thank you so much for your help in the application process :)

heyyyy guys! Cant wait for decisions to come out; so scared!!! So, what did everyone write about?

Decisions are probably going to come out in a month, since they said that the app would open in early November, but it turned out to be closer to mid-November. ahhh

I can’t wait either! I’m gonna be a mess in April :stuck_out_tongue:
