MIT MITES Summer 2014

I want to go to bed early so before midnight would be even better haha

My hunch is next week, but it’s just a hunch lol.

@Southpaw45 some advice for Astronomy is to print out this http://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/Astronomy/DSOs</a>
and http://scioly.org/wiki/images/c/c6/Formula_Sheet.pdf</a> and <a href=“Astronomy - Wiki - Scioly.org”>http://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/Astronomy</a>
This is my first year competing in science olympiad but my partner and I got 1st in states for Florida using these documents (You’re allowed to take notes). GOODLUCK!!

Also, can’t forget the Messier catalog <a href=“Messier object - Wikipedia”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Messier_objects</a></p>

Also quite honestly I think the results will be coming out sometime next week. Our apps were due much later than previous years.

Another longtime-lurker coming out of the dark here… Good luck to my fellow applicants. You all seem great; I look forward to meeting you guys this summer. optimism

If we get in… pessimism

Haha jk I look forward to meeting you too

My money is on next week as well. If they’ve been sending them out on Wednesdays, I would assume the results would come out on a Wednesday again but who knows!

Okay clearly no one knows what day it is, rendering every day starting today a possible decision day. If it’s next week, I really don’t think I can wait another 7 days LOL.

I really don’t think it’ll be next Wednesday. I believe on the website itself it says on or before April 15th as well as mid-April. April 16th is later!

And I believe the key to the Wednesday release date is not that it is any Wednesday, but it is the second Wednesday of the month. It seems the only time they’ve gone past the 10th or so is because April fell that year so that the second Wednesday wasn’t until the 13th or so.

I had a friend do MITES last year who I spoke with today who said that he believes he got his result Wednesday night at 11 CST…Do with that information what you will, I guess we’ll know the validity in about an hour.

@Southpaw45 Dude don’t be playing with me! I will personally come over and shake your hand if you are correct! And where does it say “on or before april 15th”?

@Existentialized‌ “On or before” might be SSP (I’ve been confusing a lot of the jargon they use to describe deadlines and what not) but I see that in the FAQ for MITES it says something better:

20.When will I find out whether or not I was accepted into the MITES Program?
Decisions will be released in early April.

It is earlyish April right now!!! If I’m wrong, I will be surprised. I know we had an extension but I don’t think it was that dramatic of one? Especially because it is possible for them to get more reviewers and what not.

Also, I’m a lady, so dude should be dude…ette? Nope, dude is better.

@Southpaw45 Sorry it’s the linguistic idiosyncrasies that So-Cal residents possess. Everyone unconsciously calls each other “dude” or “man”.

Also, I think that the FAQ is outdated because that question was answered years back. Mid-april will be mid-april, but the word “mid” is still open to interpretation.

@Existentialized‌ Hahaha, don’t you say hella in SoCal? Thank you all for inventing hella. Hella has become apart of who I am. I’m writing an essay about Rosalind Franklin and her mistreatment by her colleagues in the media and I almost wrote that they were hella unfair. I’m totally ready for MITES…

The FAQ might be outdated, but that doesn’t change the fact that in most of the years past they’ve had decisions right around now. Crossing my fingers (and toes) that we’re not the one outlier year where decisions don’t get released until the 16th…

@Southpaw45 LOL yeah people say that around here too, but to a certain extent. People don’t just throw it out for the heck of it. It’d be hella annoying…

I think what makes each year a little more different is the number of applicants they received. The applicant pool this year and the one years back (when they answered that FAQ) probably differ by a huge number. And also because they decided to delay our due date by about a month. That’s probably why they said “mid” instead of “early”. I guess we’ll just have to see in a couple minutes.

Also if your friend said the decisions came out at 11pm CST Wednesday, wouldn’t that have been 12 AM EDT last night? We’ve already exhausted that option. Oh shoot nevermind.

@Existentialized‌ No, because 11pm CST on Wednesday is 12am EST on Thursday, which is right…about…now…

My inbox is empty :/

Good luck you guys! :)

mine’s empty too
