I know some other programs like LEDA use a similar application and they also had glitches, if that helps at all?

@johannbach I was suggesting that decisions already posted ARE correct, but that people who still have the regular application form simply haven’t been given acceptances or rejections yet. If my guess is correct then we should be seeing more and more people clearly getting denials (and perhaps a sprinkle of acceptances here and there) in place of the original application over the next two weeks.

Another guess - if someone emails MITES about the situation, they’ll find out that we’re all eagerly peeking at our accounts despite their having taken down the link and may take some kind of action to lock us out of our accounts or something lol. If that were to happen then it’s a high chance that whoever DID already get denials are probably already rejected.

Hmm so then people who haven’t yet gotten denials at all shouldn’t make any conclusions, correct?

Ahh so you’re also suggesting that eventually they’ll start posting acceptances in lieu of simply not posting anything?

Yeah, if my conjecture’s right then anyone who still has their original app shouldn’t celebrate an acceptance yet.

I’m suggesting that MITES may just keep anybody from logging in at all (or hide the “status update” or something similar) in order to keep the information confidential until they decide to officially release decisions. I guess we’ll find out when people start getting replies to emails :|

so to clarify my hypothesis: If you get a denial posted, you got rejected. If you get an acceptance posted, you got accepted. If you have neither and still have the original application, the MITES staff are still making a decision on you. It’s also possible that once the MITES staff know we saw what we saw that they will lock us out or hide all the information until official release so we can’t watch ourselves slowly get filtered into the final 80 (which would honestly be terrifying.)

Wait, I’m confused about something. When I go to the page where applications used to be I don’t find a way to go back to my account now. I can’t find my application. It looks like I’m locked out. I’m looking here <a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science; but maybe I should be looking somewhere else? How do I get to the page where my application status is listed?

@Hector123 you need to go to mitesapp.mit.edu (copy-paste into URL.) the MITES staff apparently never intended for anyone to log in during this period, which means they weren’t expecting us to be checking our accounts at ALL. That’s what made me think that what’s happening might not be a glitch since they initially figured they could post whatever they wanted without anyone knowing, but soon they’ll know that’s not the case.

@Apdenoatis That’s pretty much what I was thinking… but sadly, I’m supporting an argument that puts me in clear rejection.

@Existentialized I mean, it’s just a guess… glitches are still possible since they DID have a big one with the teacher recs.

But I mean, in the end… 4% is an awful acceptance rate to begin with. And at least, if it turns out you were rejected, you can move forward with your life and focus on school.

though we are yet to see any actual acceptances sprinkled around

@bolkevlp they’re probably still fighting over who to accept. Deciding which 96% to reject from MITES is probably a really hard job.

@Apdenoatis Hmm yeah agreed with pretty much all of that. Waiting for that one person to post acceptance XD

Plus, one MAJOR downside to all of this is that I’m constantly refreshing my app page XD

What did the survey results end up being?

@johannbach imo no one, or at least not more than 1 or 2 people, will have gotten acceptances, since it seems to me that the staff think REALLY hard about all the applicants before they decide who to take… but if MITES doesn’t lock us out of our accounts then maybe we’ll slowly watch people get acceptances.

I honestly hope they lock us out, though, if they do. I don’t think I could stand watching people getting upset over rejections all week long.

@■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ 45 responses. 24 yes, 21 no. I am literally 99.999999% sure all those “No” people weren’t accepted.

@Apdenoatis Yeah pretty much. I think we’ll start seeing legit acceptances around next Tuesday/Wednesday.

@johannbach Why do you think the 21 “No” people weren’t accepted? What about those who answered “yes”?

I mean “weren’t accepted” not in the sense that they were rejected, but just that not all of them are gonna be accepted. They’re basically pending. I agree with @Apdenoatis in the sense that that people who answered “Yes” were probably rejected, but that’s just a gut feeling.

I honestly think that the status update thingy is neither a denial or acceptance. Quite frankly, if it was a denial then MIT would never allow you to see that it was something standard rather than personal. And it wouldn’t be acceptance because I doubt that 50% of us got accepted (statistically). Guys, just don’t think too much about it, you’ll drive yourselves crazy. I personally would like to see though what MIT responds though about the status update thingy though (yes I just called it a thingy).

@Fredsterboard is right that we shouldn’t all get too caught up in speculation and that we shouldn’t forget that guesses are just guesses. What happens, happens, and we all knew that most of us were going to get rejected anyway.

I’ll post something if i receive any news from them via email.
