Mit Wtp 2008

yeah, i really wanna do EECS
i love computer science
ME isn't really for me

the class is on my transcript, because for some reason my parents wanted me to get a HS elective credit for it. but if i really wanted to i could ask for it to be removed

do you guys know if people who took AP comp sci have gotten in?

i think im gonna call tomorrow just to check that i can get in with that class
bc i dont think it makes me overqualified

You can email them too. I emailed them about a problem and they responded really quickly.

wow im nervous if i screw this up i'll have nothing to do over the summer

oh good idea
i dont wanna email them with my official email address though, because then they'll know it's me
and i wouldn't email them with the one i email friends with

mmm i know, ill be so upset if i can't go
but if i don't get in i guess i'm going to math camp

lol i WAS planning on applying to teh new jersey governor's school for science but then my school did not nominate me.

ahh, i went to wtp (eecs) in 2006! i remember i didn't spend that much time on my app, had virtually NO math/science awards (which definitely hurt me when i applied to mit lol), and got in. i definitely think they're looking for people who are uncertain about engineering. i know someone who wrote about how much she loves engineering, how she wants to be an engineer when she grows up, and didn't get in. the point of wtp is to just expose you to what engineers do. good luck: wtp is an AWESOME program!

oh, and xtalknerdytomex, you could just call them...

you guys shouldn't lie about your experiences. and it's not like they're going to reject you if you have computer science experience- I put that on my app (I had some basic programming knowledge) and even included some code I wrote. and I know girls my summer who were really into their robotics teams and stuff. If you're really worried about it, then maybe you should pick the other track? You'd probably be bored in CS if you're a real experienced programmer anyway.

i just called WTP
they said that i don't have too much experience :)
because all my experience applies to ME and im applying to EECS

wow im totally inadequet

I'm mailing in my application tomorrow!
:-/

is it better to mail early

haha im thinking definitely reject :(

i dont think it matters when you mail it
i just wanna get rid of it

hey tennisgirl...do u think u can read my essays ^__^

hey i'm applying too...sooo......i don't have math/science awards, clubs, programs. NADA, but i'm interested in math and science. there was no such clubs, or stuff where i live.
i got PSAT score: 213 M: 76, CR:72 W: 65

great recs

so i mention that i have no math/science opportunties in my area on my application? and do i mention i study math on my own on the extracurricular part?

I've dabbled a little in Visual Basic programming, but not too much. i have trouble learning it on my own.

on the "doing it for fun" part: i talked about my passion for reading and why i started my high school's first book club. Is that ok? even it's not related to math and science?

Also, does being deaf and hearing impaired counts? How much? i mean, how many deaf ppl apply to that program or got in?

hmm is there college-type "affirmative action" for WTP

no idea. but i hope so. being deaf may help me cuz i'm sure deaf ppl are underrepresented in the engineering and science community.

If you somehow include that in one of your essays, or perhaps have a teacher mention it in a recommendation, that might help you a lot.

just sent my app in :)

ahhhh....:(
i still have to edit my essays and stuff
and for the "how does science/math affect the way you interact with the world"
i think i did that wrong--i wrote about how i like math and physics and why i did, and where i first encountered it
