Hmm, decimals seen to work now, I guess they fixed it. Should I still send them an email to clarify whether we should send the section scores out of 38 or the other scores?
@TheNutKicker I got a recommendaton from my computer science teacher + math
does anyone know if we have to turn in a transcript or will it just be the GPA section they asked us?
@diegogarciadb05 Your counselor sends the transcript.
okay thank you dsi, also do you know if the teacher recommendations have to be from our current one, because the one I have for this year is hardly a teacher and the class is more like a free period/breakfast club.
@diegogarciadb05 This was in the FAQ:
How would they know which is our current teacher though? My transcript does not include that information

D is only interested in E2, will decline if she gets MITES or MOSTEC, Anyone else have a strong preference?
MITES, hehe. But I’ll gladly take one of the other two.
I’m not sure. I’m kind of hoping for E2 because of the financial engineering and because it will allow me to go to another summer program I’m applying to, but that’s assuming I get into E2 and Yale Young Global Scholars, which is kind of a stretch. If it came down between MITES and YYGS I’m not sure what I would do because I want to major in economics, and YYGS has an economics seminar. However, MITES would help me better with applying to MIT which has one of the top economics programs in the country.
My best advice if you prefer a specific program is to try to gear your essays a bit towards that program. I sort of did that and it got me into the one I wanted (E2)
S was MITES 14, and this year will be applying to be a MITES TA. His main ECs were not science related.
UGH I keep reading all these posts on really letting your personality shine through with the essays. But I am currently trying to finish my essays thinking “I have no personality”. Advice?
Good luck to everyone applying these year!
one more thing:
I think I’ll get good recommendations from my guidance counselor and math teacher but I’m not so sure about my science teacher
@Goozar: Post #8: Very nicely said.
I saw an answer to this before but I’m still a little paranoid. Do I personally have to upload my test scores or mail it to MIT? Or is that all included in my guidance counselors recommendation form because I’m not seeing an upload option in the portal. I’ve probably been paranoid because I’ve seen past MITES discussion boards people were worrying about sending in their test scores on time with some having to fax or mail it to them. Thanks to anyone that can answer!
@cashmilaaaa - My advice, write about it and your fears. My S wrote about fear of failure and choosing the wrong major. Since it was something he thought about and worried about, the essay was good.
For the essays, is essay #6 strongly recommended? I know it says it’s optional, but I feel like it’s one of those “optional” but actually really really recommended essays. MITES alumnis-- did you guys fill this part out when applying?

Also, should I start very direct with the essays? As in “My career goals are…” or a little less direct (but you get the point), or sth more anecdotal?
Thanks!!
