I Am Sam was depressing? Didn't Sean Penn get to keep Dakota Fanning?

The Green Mile is sad, but it's still uplifting because it's full of good-hearted characters.

Leaving Las Vegas... Now that's a depressing movie. There's absolutely no hope in that movie; you just watch Nicholas Cage get drunker and drunker.

I thought "A walk to Remember" was depressing, because I hadn't read the book. I didn't know she was going to die (expected it to be a fairytale ending), and also he never married again..and after all the years still wore his wedding ring.

I think there is a really depressing movie with the title, "A Perfect World." Correct me if I incorrect, because it is a really old film and I don't really remember the plot.

Has anyone seen Gallipoli? That was a depressing movie...its was that Mel Gibson film. We watched it in AP World, and at the end, the whole class was depressed. It was just soo shocking who died....and they ended it with the guy dying. Talk about depressing....

Has anyone seen Jakob the Liar? I don't know that it can really be classified as "depressing" as it has an uplifting message, but it's just SO SAD! It has me bawling my eyes out toward the end every time I watch it, (which is fairly often) and I am one of those people who does not cry. It has to be one of my absolute favorite movies, though.

I fell asleep during Million Dollar Baby, but my buddy told me about how Hilary Swank got paralyzed, so that would be depressing I guess. Most of these movies seem real sad, but I haven't seen a lot of them. I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the Dukes of Hazard when Daisy had heart failure in the end of the movie, I cried my eyes out.

"Cruel Intentions" - seriously! The ending is so depressing.

"Sometimes in April" and "Hotel Rwanda" - both about the Rwandan genocide, came out around the same time, too. They both are similar but still two different stories.

"The Pianist" - I actually never got to finish it, everytime I tried to watch it I got really depressed. Which is strange, because I made it through "Schindler's List" all right (which is also a depressing movie)

Cruel Intentions was depressing but the last scene was rather hopeful. Because Annette had all thoses memories of Sebastian, even though he was gone. And Catherine got what she deserved. :D

Crash, imo, is a pretty sad movie. Saw it in the theatre a few weeks ago. Good character study, as many depressing movies tend to be.

Grapes of Wrath
Kramer vs Kramer
Million Dollar Baby
On the Waterfront
Pianist
Schindler's List
Seven
Streetcar Named Desire
Thirteen
To Kill a Mockingbird

There are many international movies to mention too...but I will leave them for another discussion!

Requiem for a Dream depressing? Really? After watching it, I felt strangely uplifted. Made me feel kind of proud of where i was in life (i.e. not getting my arm sawed off.)

How about A Beautiful Mind? The ending is inspirational but the rest of the movie is sooo sad. The guy's best friend never even really existed :(.
