Ok, someone is probably going to think I’m crazy for this

North Carolina

Underrated - DUKE University. So many people out there are ready to throw the opportunity to go to Duke away for an Ivy league school. Sometimes their ready to throw it away even when they have a full ride scholarship so they can go to an Ivy for full price! FFS that’s just insane! Just look at all the recent threads about college choices, people count Duke out of the most elite all the time and I think its a phenomenal school.

rjk,
Many folks think that, for undergraduate education, Duke is right there with HYPSM. If you’ve ever interviewed there, you see very quickly that the quality of the student and his/her level of preparedness is little different. That is why you find Dukies all over the country, frequently with some of the most competitive employers. It’s a great school that produces a great product. I don’t think that the school is underrated, but it definitely belongs on any list of top undergraduate colleges.

^ agreed, duke is definitely up there with the best of the best. imo, once you get to the top 20, it’s just splitting hairs between who’s better.

Agree, Duke offers great academics, beautiful campus(warm weather also), and school spirit . Stanford represents the closest peer school to Duke in terms of academics/athletics.

I’m not going to argue that Duke is recognized as a top rated university because it is. But I think when it gets compared to other top rated schools it easily gets counted out. Like I said if you paroose this forum you’ll find evidence of it yourself within the numerous posts of people contemplating full price admissions for a top rated school when they have a full ride or decent scholarship to Duke. Is that not right? People hate on Duke and I think it gets too much of a bad wrap and deserves more credit for being a great school.

BTW UC Berkeley is overrated for undergraduate enrollment, their grad programs are amazing.

Overrate - Yale
Underrated - Trinity or Connecticut College or UCONN (some students really don’t like it, because it is in state but it’s a decent school)

Overrated: St. Olaf… I’m not sure what reputation it has nationally, but this is basically a school for pretty, non-academically inclined rich kids.

Overrated: University of Florida (wayyy too much regional prestige)
Underrated: New College of Florida (fantastic programs, interesting grading system, SAT/ACT average of incoming Freshmen surpasses all other institutions, great admittance stats to graduate schools - certainly the small LAC that could!)

^How is JHU overrated? Do you know ANYTHING about JHU? People only give it credit for being good in medicine, which is extremely untrue if you actually know anything about JHU.
