NY (For undergrad)

Overrated: NYU

I like this thread. I’ve lived in a bunch of states, so here goes (of course, this is for undergrad):

NY:

Florida:

DC:
overrated: G-town
underrated: Howard

Massachusetts
overrated: Hahvard and BU. Come on BU is a party school!

MA (For undergrad)

Overrated: Boston College, Northeastern Univ.
Underrated: Tufts, Holy Cross, Boston Univ.

(This is just my school and does not reflect the opinions of the world)
Overrated: Illinois State University (EVERY college shirt you will in the halls are either USC and ISU. And we don’t even live by it!)
Underrated: (IN MY SCHOOL) UIUC. Seriously, no one cares about it at all.

South Carolina:

Overrated: University Of South Carolina - Columbia
Underrated: Wofford, Furman

Virginia

Overrated: William and Mary, George Mason
Underrated: Washington and Lee, James Madison, VCU
Just rated: UVa, Virginia Tech, Richmond

North Carolina (Second home)

Overrated: None that I can really think of, actually, although this is all very subjective of course.
Underrated: Davidson, NC State, Wake Forest
Just rated: Duke, Carolina

Massachusetts:

Overrated: Bentley, Emerson, UMass-Amherst, Northeastern
Underrated: Bard College At Simon’s Rock, Mount Holyoke

Florida

Overrated: University of Florida. No matter how many times it is said, UF is not a “public ivy.”

Underrated: New College of Florida. Small classes, great professors, open-ended curriculum, great PhD turnout. The other underrated Florida college is Rollins.

Missouri

Overrated - University of Missouri
Underrated - Truman State University

Overrated: NYU
Underrated: Cornell

California

Overrated: UCLA
Underrated: Claremont Colleges

Illinois
Overrated:
University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign
-Kids at my school think U of I as the second coming. It’s only good for engineering and you just party in cornfields. Way overrated.
Northwestern (At times)
-From my perspective, kids in Illinois think NW is their Harvard. Yes, it is a pretty good school, but only for journalism and business.
Underrated
U of Chicago
-People think of it as some anti-social, acne-ridden, nightmare(Which it sometimes is). However, the academics are stellar and destroy NW.

Overrated: Berkeley, UCLA, Cal Poly SLO

Underrated: Davis, UCSB, Pomona

VA
Over: James Madison , VA Tech , Richmond.
Under:George Mason , William and Mary.

I feel like UVa deserves most of the credit it gets, But WM is the veryveryvery close second.

Washington:
Over: U of Washington
Under: Whitman

Well now, that was easy, wasn’t it? University of Puget Sound probably deserves a mention because that place is intensely underrated, too. Whitman takes the cake, though.

Massachusetts:

Over: Holy Cross
Underrated: Amherst College
