Underrated: Williams, Amherst, Tufts, Holy Cross, Mt Holyoke

Massachusetts- Underrated- Holy Cross, Olin, Tufts-all great schools with strong alumni networks(Olin is relatively young).

Tennessee:

Overrated: Vanderbilt, UT Knoxville
Underrated: Rhodes, East Tennessee State, Middle Tennessee State

New York

Overrated- Binghamton, Geneseo, Pace, Hofsta

Underated- Baruch, Hunter, Stonybrook

Overrated: University of Maryland: Baltimore County
(You guys probably havenāt heard of it, but so many people who got rejected from College Park talk about UMBC like itās the stuff when it really isnāt.)

Underrated: University of Maryland: College Park
(MD kids donāt realize how many people in New Jersey/New York apply to and really want to go to UMD; they donāt realize how good of a school it is. They put if off as just a state school but itās really more than that. Itās a true flagship university in that sense.)

Johns Hopkins University

Florida

Overrated: UF, USF, UM

Underrated: FAU, FIU & Stetson U

for Illinois:

Overrated: UIUC - itās a good school, but itās not OMG YOURE GOING TO U OF I YOU MUST BE A GENIUS.

Underrated: UChicago - seriously, outside of Hyde Park-Kenwood youāre more likely to know about UChicago if you live in New York than if you live in Chicago.

California

Overrated: UCs

Underrated: Claremont Colleges, Occidental College

@marinebiosax, thatās interesting bc I feel like most of the colleges in our state are rated pretty accurately lol. Maybe UT overrated a bit and Rhodes under a bit.
Oh and underrated Tennessee Tech. Because even I think of Tennessee Tech as kind of a joke, but apparently its actually a pretty good school

New York:

Overrated: NYU, Cornell

Under: Any of the SUNYS, most kids shrug them off as ājust state schoolsā (though that may be because i live in a very wealthy area where private schools are much more prestigious)

Vassar, Union, Rochester

California

Overrated: UC Berkeley, UCLA (at my school)
Underrated: Pomona

Well, I think I personally overrate Pomona because Iām slightly biased But my recent visit lived up to my high expectations. I <3 Pomona

This is based more on the opinions and decisions that my highschool peers have madeā¦

New Jersey

Overrated
NJIT, Montclair State, Ramapo

Underrated
Rutgers-Newark

I, myself, am waiting on a transfer decision from RSUNJNB, so Iām neutral in this. I didnāt apply to Newark, but I may end up taking some Summer courses there. Newark is an up-and-coming city in New Jersey (really.) and RU-Newark will offer the same, if not better in the case of criminal justice, education that Rutgers (or any other state school) would offer. Itās completely off the radar.

Forgot that I have lived in Virginia
Overrated: U of Richmond (When did Richmond become a small Ivy? Seems like a sports/party school to me.)
Underrated: George Mason (Wow, this school always impresses.)

In Georgia

Overrated: UGA, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, West Georgia
Underrated: Emory (It really is), Mercer, Georgia Tech

Overrated: UCLA, UC Berekey

Underrated: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona

Overrated: University of Miami
46 grand for a year there compared to 48 grand for a year in MIT is just not worth it.

Washington

Overrated: UW. Living near Seattle, many people where I am from consider UW the holy grail of all higher education in the country. It is a great school without a doubt, but there is so much more out there and people canāt seem to look past UW.

Underrated: WSU. Maybe because I live so close to UW, WSU seems to be the butt of a lot of jokes, and sure it is not as good of a school as UW but its has a lot to offer, especially in certain majors.

Maryland

Underrated: University of Maryland, College Park

Overrated: UNC chapel hill

Underrated: Duke

California:

Overrated: The University of California System, Stanfurd, University of Spoiled Children

I was excited to attend UC Davis when I first got the acceptance letter, but my experience here has been one of disillusionment. Educationwise, Iāve had some great professors, but Iāve also had some crummy professors as well ā and in engineering, thereās often no way to avoid these professors, as there is usually only one section offered per quarter. The UC system also strikes me as bloated, expensive, and inefficient.

Thereās no way I would ever pay $35,000+ per year for my education, under any circumstance.

Underrated: The California Community College system.

There is no way anybody can convince me that $36-$40 per unit is a bad deal. Iāve had some very good professors (well okā¦ instructors) at my CCC. It may take longer if you canāt get into a particular class, but you can fill in the time by getting a job. Sure, there are some stupid kids that attend a CC, but they usually disappear by the drop date. Those who remain show at least SOME level of ambition.

What sucks is that I transferred to UCD, and there are stupid kids up here, too. Many of them also seem to have been indoctrinated into believing they will not be getting jobs anytime soon, and its all because of big corporations and monopolies.
