most overrated/underrated college?

reed still is not cool.

What's cool? Frat parties and chug-a-lug beer contests? If you have a problem with the nature of Reed's academic offerings than maybe you have a problem with the nature of higher education. That is the point of going to college, is it not? Education?

What school received the most undergrad applications for 06? I thought it was UCLA, but someone said NYU so I'm confused now.

"overated: michigan state...its ranked 77th best or whatever: its just a party school with athletics...if you want a good party, go to state

if you want a public ivy league education, go to u of m"

First of all, this is not an 'overrated' school. It is most certainly 'underrated'.

It is NOT just a party school with athletics. Ask any student in Madison or Lyman-Briggs. They're not at parties, they're studying. Or ask any student in the honors college. They're not partying because they're at the Smithsonian doing research as part of a assistant professorship. MSU treats its top students like kings and queens - they will bend over backwards if you choose to go there instead of the other school down the road, and with significant merit aid, often in the form of full-tuition plus room & board and a stipend, more students are realizing this.

Its ACT and GPA averages are going up steadily and its admission rate is creeping down. Certain programs, like the residential colleges, fill up by mid-October. There is a BIG demand for a lot of programs there. If you want to study abroad, it's the best school in the country. They just quadrupled the size of their art museum and are building a new music building because the top music students in the state don't have the numbers to get into Michigan - so where are they going? MSU.

Over-rated: Notredame, UPenn, University of Chicago, Washington University
Under-rated: USC, UT-Austin, University of Washington, NYU

USC underrated and university of chicago overrated???!!!

Over-rated: Princeton
Under-rated: Olin

This is very true

overated: UC schools
underrated: maryland college park

overrated: wellesley. i mean come on, it's a women's college. even if an all-male college was 10 times better, it could never crack the top 25.

Wellesley is easily one of the best colleges in the country and has top notch academics. It also has one of the highest endowments per student in the country - not at the Yale or Princeon level, but up there. This has nothing to do with it being a women's college.

Most overrated: NYU
Most underrated: Tufts

Most overrated: NYU, USC, HYP

Most underrated: Cornell, virtually every LAC known to exist

Underrated: Carnegie Mellon, Rice, Olin, Harvey Mudd

"Most overrated: NYU, USC, HYP

Most underrated: Cornell, virtually every LAC known to exist"

The most comprehensive and accurate response so far. ;)

Just add MSU!

Harvard, the basis for comparison for every school in the country, overrated? Please.

Also, how in the world is Cornell underrated? Give me a break.

underrated- chicago, ucsd, emory

overrated- washu , tufts, cal

overrated Harvard
uunderrated Wash U

Overrated - Ohio State
Underrated - Marquette, St. Louis Univ, Tufts

once again, if an all-male college existed with better professors, an endowment twice the size of wellesley's, a lower acceptance rate, etc., it would be ranked no higher than 25. i never said wellesley wasn't a great school with "top notch academics" (unique word choice); all i said was that it was overrated due to the fact that it is the best all-women's college. it is consistently ranked higher than bowdoin, wesleyan, pomona, davidson, W&L, grinnell when it is not better than any of those schools.
