Ok, first off, those of you who have been waitlisted, take a breath. Realize that things are not over and that your futures have not been set in stone, as far as Mount Holyoke is concerned. If you still want to try for this college, I would suggest that you begin to re-evaluate what drew you to apply in the first place. What attracts you about MoHo? What can you offer THEM? Why are you a good fit? If any of you know contacts in the admissins office on a more personal level, ask them for advice. Above all. LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED. Colleges want kids to want them. Show them accomplishments that could not be reported on your transcript “if this applies to you.” Write a personal letter. If you’re up for the battle, now begins part two of your process. So take some time. Heck, take a week. But get back on your feet and bounce back. MoHo doesn’t want quitters, they want a fighter.

For those of you who have been rejected, do not ( will repeat,) DO NOT get down on yourselves about what kind of people you are or what this let down means as far as you comparison to your others schools at this point. Seriously, it will only stress you out more, though I know it’s hard to take advice like this at face value at first. First things first, get to know the Universities and Colleges that HAVE accepted you, even if you only applied so you would ‘have that dumb old saftie’ on your list. Appreciate them, try to like them, though loving at this point might be hard to imagine. 2015hopeful, you have already gotten into a school with a $18,000 scholarship per year and whether it feels this way to you or not, you are lucky and you. have. options. You can GO TO COLLEGE! If any of you are in a position where you have no saftie, please, please play the college game safe and apply to some with rolling admissions or late dates (if they still exist at this point in the process). I hate the phrase “a college doesn’t define you, you can do well anywhere and have a great life,” because that is totally objective to every kid. Yeah, you CAN do amazing things and have a ‘great life’ after graduating from Stanford, but plenty of people don’t. It’s not on their list of top proirities and undergrad may very well have been the best thing that DID ever happen to them. Don’t…let that happen to you. Don’t let any college, ANY college make you stop doing what you do well, because if your skills improve, you can go places. You took yourselves and placed your profiles in the hands of some strange and anonymous office workers and you can very well take yourselfs OUT of Mount Holyoke and take the oppertunites that come your way. And if you look for them, they will come eventually. It would be a sad day on earth if any of you considered the misgiving of you lives being over. Ladies, your like, 17 or 18. Your lives are just beginning.

As for me, I learned to ‘like’ my saftie and realize that no, it’s not what I want, but I will be able to go places with it. For me, this is good news, because I did get accepted to Mount Holyoke, but financial offerings were slim and far from what I had hoped for. Life will go on.
