cool, so if i get there around 6:00 am i'm set right?

wow. what time do the doors open.

btw, sometimes they let you move your stuff in the night before, if you're flying in the night before, it wouldn't hurt to go there and ask the security guard.

You said that one might be able to get into the dorms the night before (esp if flying in from out of town) and that you could ask the security guard to let you in...but would that be the security guard in the dorm, or the person giving out keys? How could you get the security guard to let you in if you don't have keys?

I was calculating approx. prices for shipping with UPS and for a 30 pound package it is like, 70 bucks. Oh my god.

try regular mail (usps.com). it's usually a heck of a lot cheaper.

danse, I had a couple of friends move in the night before, but i personally did not.Just ask the security guard or whoever is in the building.

I'm glad I checked the rates now because if I send it all out a week early (I hope I can live without my stuff that long) I can get it for only 20 bucks.

i read on the nyu lj community that some people were allowed to move in the night before.. anyone do this??

also, what's moving into weinstein like??

Matt, you said you had some friends move in the night before. Does that mean that the security guard in the building has the keys or did the friends get the keys somewhere else...some central location? Thanks for any info!

I've heard a couple people say that you should move-in as early as possible, no matter your last name. Do they not check names or something? Would it be possible for me (a "W") to move in early morning?

what time do the dorms open?

Danses, they just showed up in the dorm to see what it looked like, and whoever was there told them they could move in, im not sure who it was, im assuming a security guard, but you just have to go to the building, ask whoever is there, and pray lol.

DanseMom - we moved our son into University Hall last year, so maybe this will help. They will not let you park near the dorm on 14th street, but will instead direct you around the corner to 13th - the rear entrance. There will be lots of people there directing you, and lots of cars in front of you. We got there early, about 10. It was helpful that there were three of us. We unpacked the stuff onto the sidewalk, behind thirty or so other people who had done the same (cops insist one person stays in the car at all times). It looked like a refugee movie. My son went into the building to get his ID, keys. My wife stayed with the stuff. I parked the car a couple of blocks away on the street, which is doable on sunday, but there were also plenty of parking lots if I hadn't found a spot. Then I walked back to U-Hall, by which time my son had already checked in and made his first trip upstairs with stuff. They have multiple elevators, so it doesn't take long, although the best way is to take the elevator up and walk back down. We couldn't get a trolley, as they were all taken, so we just shuttled all the stuff up there in three or fout trips. From the time we pulled up until the time we were totally done was about 1 1/2 hours. Really not bad. Let me know you want any other info.

As an R.A., I can tell you not to count on moving in the night before. It isn't allowed and even international students who have to arrive the night before will not be accomodated. Move in day is move in day and we all have to deal with it!

yeah, the little pamphlet that we get in the mail says moving in early is not allowed.
