Hi,

I will be attending the August 20-21 CTOPS session. Online, at this link Orientation - August Session Info, it is stated that "students will move directly into their Fall Housing Assignment for the August CTOPS and TSOP sessions."

Does this mean that I move in all my dorm belongings on this day? If so, where/when should I arrive and check in?
If not, then when is my move in day, as the August CTOPS conflicts with my assigned move-in day (August 21).

I am slightly confused about the move in process/schedule for students attending the August 20-21, so if anyone can clarify it for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

braves,

You can move in on the 19th. That is the earliest any student can move in, other than approved early arrivals, such as athletes and band members. You should move into your housing assignment then, with all of your stuff.

Thanks for the response packerfan.

I’m still not fully understanding. I received a brochure in the mail titled “Moving to Carolina” which states that students assigned to Hinton James (my dorm) are to move in during the 21st. I thought that only residents of Ram Village Apartments and Odum Village Apartments can move in on the 19th.

Well, that’s what they say… There are actually people already living in the dorms by the 21st (RAs). They just want you to move in at a certain time so that it’s not so crowded.

The RAs have been here for a while actually. Since the 6th or 7th to be exact, to go through training. As for as the brochure, I would check it to make sure that it doesn’t say anything about exceptions being made for the last CTOPS. But, as an RA, I can tell you for certain that you should move into your dorm if you are attending the last CTOPS session.

Packerfan,
Will CTOPS attendees be able to find an RA to let them in if they just show up at their dorm on Wednesday early afternoon? Will they need to pick up keys or whatever? For that matter, how are the rooms keyed? Are they electronic, and opened with the One Card that students won’t get until they attend CTOPS, or do you use old-fashioned metal keys like they did in my day? I’m trying not to worry, but I AM a mom getting ready to help my firstborn settle into college life… you know how it is. :)

I emailed orientation just to confirm what you had said, packerfan, and here is the reply I recieved:

“You can move in to your assigned residence hall as early at 7am on August 19 or any time after that. Please contact Housing at 919-962-5401 for more details.”

So thank you all for clarifying. I will be moving in on the 19th.

GrizzMom,
You will definitely be able to find an RA at your community. We are all working shifts between 7 and 7. The community office will be open and if you just ask someone you can find the place. The rooms have metal keys, but you will also be assigned flex passes, electronic keys, that actually let you into the building. However for move in, I think anyone can get in the buildings. If anyone has anymore questions about move in, feel free to ask. I’ll do my best to answer everything I know, and I can probably find out the answers to pretty much any question you may have.

Thanks so much for your reply, packerfan! I think I’m all set now, and I’m sure that others appreciate your help as much as I do. It’s good of you to take the time to assuage our concerns.
