My chances at top-tier UCs, Brown, USC, Johns Hopkins, Duke?

Hey guys, guy from California here, and I want to see what your guys' opinions are about my chances to these universities. I attend one of the most competitive public high schools in all of California (listed in the top 10 in the nation in newsweekly in 2012) and I belong in roughly the top <7% of my graduating year. So weighing in all those factors here it goes:

I listed my club activities as very vague for my own purposes, and also keep in mind that this is not my complete achievements/app but what my application will consist mostly of.

To specify UC’s, I meant UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UCSD

What I would suggest is find what you’re passionate about and pick a few UCs, don’t throw hundreds of dollars away by applying to all of them. For me, Im really into business and computer science so Berkeley is almost a no brainer, most of the other ones aren’t much of a match for me and it took some research to figure that out. They all have different traits to them, so find which ones suit you best and then apply to those. But to answer your main question, your academics and such are right on queue, just choose wisely.

Thanks for the advice! I plan on applying to 5 UC’s, 3 mentioned above, and the other 2 as backups. The only private I would say I’m most passionate about and would fit my preferred field of study is Duke, and I would have the best chance there by applying ED. Any thoughts on that?

I would only apply ED if you’re sure it’s your first choice school. I wouldn’t want to risk closing the door on other possible opportunities.

Well a big problem is if I will even get into Duke ED with my stats. If not, I could try my chances with early app somewhere else.

I think Duke ED is a challenge, but it’s possible. So have great essays and perform your best and that just may happen! Unsure what your unweighted GPA is but I’m assuming nearly straight A’s? Don’t bother retaking the SAT, 2250+ is good enough.

Chance me back please?
