My college kid suspended for a semester. What now?

The OP has not been back so we may never know the whole story.

I disagree. Obviously there is more to this story as kids don’t get suspended for a beer. But this idea that kids are “adults” and should handle this themselves when they have waived privacy, is unrealistic. 90% of the time, parents are paying the bills for college kids and as such they are the fiduciary. They should absolutely be informed and consulted. If I bought a product/service (education), I’d expect communication on such a significant incident with tens of thousands of dollars of tuition at stake. It may not have solid legal foundation but it is the right thing to do.

Agree to disagree.

You need to find out the procedures and if there is an ability to appeal the tribunal’s decision and preserve that right. It doesn’t sound like anything I’ve heard of for what is described to have resulted in suspension without earlier acts, resisting with security or something greater. I would probably hire a local attorney to get the records and figure out any options since suspension is a big deal. If he did more, or violated something else resulting in it, then come back when he can and chalk this one up to a mistake.

@Laxmama24 : were you able to get to the bottom of this?
