I was assigned a new counselor, but she doesn't really know me at all... so does it look bad if I have my new counselor fill out my Mid-Year Report form? What should I do? Only counselors are allowed to send out the transcripts, so it would be difficult to get one of my teachers to fill it out...

If your counselor’s reasonable, she/he will explain that he just moved in. Or at least make sure your counselor explain the situation.

If I remember correctly, mid-year reports don’t include much written from GC.

My freshman son never met his GC until we met as a family and he hardly knew older (valedictorian son either). We were asked to write descriptions and characteristics of our kids alond with clubs, etc… and I think the GC used that in addition to things he got off his computer like GPA, classes, grades…

I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Talk to the counselor, tell him/her to mention it.

My counselor did the same thing, and it actually ended up being better. :)

Just like kids who have one parent that left in the middle of the year, colleges will take this hardship into consideration and it will actually give you a boost in the admissions process rather than hurting you.

Lucky!

It would be a good idea to give this counselor an updated resume, highlighting anything new since your application was submitted.

Perhaps your new counselor can work with your old one? My counselor went on leave this year, and she and my new counselor worked together for their components.

I bet the old counselor was fired and is therefore not competent enough to be sharing workloads, or had to leave due to some emergency and so is therefore not in any position to be helping.

Why else would a counselor leave in the middle of the school year, thereby subjecting countless students to such unnecessary stress as exhibited by this thread?

Haha yeah, it was some sort of bad staph infection… she’s on “extended leave” and from what I can tell, is pretty much unreachable. I hope she’s okay.

Okay, I’ll talk to my counselor tomorrow and see what she thinks I should do. The updated resume is a great idea, thanks! Plus my old counselor had us turn in a “brag sheet” which I totally forgot about; I’m glad you guys reminded me hahah, I hope I didn’t delete it from my computer yet.

Newb - how so?

My son’s counselor retired on 12/31. Not the end of the semester…the end of the calendar year. Temp counselor in place 1/1 - 1/15 (completion of 1st semester.) Second temp counselor now in place for all of 2nd semester. Permanent counselor starts in August. So my son will have had four different counselors in the course of a half a school year. A whole lot of counselors know a whole lot of nuthin’ 'bout my son!

Your son’s counselor seems to not care about the students he/she worked with if he/she decided to abandon them halfway through the year. Do you really want that counselor helping you out anyway?
