My Friend vs. Me w. Duke

Okay, so I'm overly worried that Duke doesn't want me.

I turned in my application way before 12/10 and spent a lot of time on my Duke Supplementary. I get a call from an interviewer a little after Jan. 1st and I had to call her back to set up an interview (she said she'd call me after Jan 4th but never did). I also had to find out about the Duke VIP page by myself and register myself.

My friend, on the other hand, applied to Duke last minute after the 12/10 deadline for an interview. She got an interviewer call her a few days after she turned in her app. and got an interview scheduled before me. She also got on email about the Duke VIP page and that's how she found out.

Can anyone explain what's going on here?

*Granted, my friend's dad got contacted to interview me but he declined because he knew me. So Duke probably had to get another interviewer to contact me. So that could explain the late call, but not THAT late.

Duke clearly doesn’t want you.

What are your stats side by side? That will really say something. Is your friend a legacy (as you post implies)? If so she definately is more liekly to be accepted.

Whether or not you are offered an interview has nothing to do with the strength of your application. The VIP page matter was probably just a glitch.

Well, it would appear that your friend’s dad is an alum, so that’s probably it. Children of alumni tend to get… not quite special treatment, but people make sure that their applications are processed well and quickly.

I submitted by Duke app 2 weeks late and still got called for an interview

anywayz, duke doesn’t care about the interview

My bad. She’s not legacy…

I should clarify that my friend S got stuff before me. My friend, B’s dad, is the alum. interviewer. Not S’s dad.

Stats side-by-side, I’d say that I’m stronger with my curriculum, GPA, ranking, EC, etc.
