My Horrible luck on the ACT

I am going crazy. The ACT is driving me insane. I don't exactly know what my weakness is anymore.

This was my score when I first took it.
Engligh - 28
Math - 27
Reading - 23 (AHHH)
Science - 28
Composite - 26

Then I took it again and really studied this time
English - 30
Math - 29
Reading - 27
Science - 21 (I dropped 7 points!!!)
Composite - 27

sigh. What should I do? I'm afraid this type of trend will happen again....

They both are pretty good scores. What are you aiming for?

I want a 30 + ......

i kind of had the same thread
may:
math 33
english 22
reading 17
science 31

june:
math 36
english 28
reading 26
science 21

math went up 3
english went up 6
reading went up 9
science went down 10!!!

i wish colleges could take highest act scores from multiple sittings like sat!!!

Eh, I'd try the SAT... only three sections to worry about.

To Be Honest, is ACT hard compare to SAT?

SAT is literally killing me b/c of all the vocabs....how about ACT?

I think ACT is pretty easy, but the time constraints works against us. By the time the test is over, I am fatigued. :(..

ACT has no vocab. i would def consider taking it if thats what is hurting you on the SAT. personally I find the ACT soooo much easier.

I hate the SAT, but love the ACT. I find it easier, but as everyone said, the time is horrible, and you have to work uber quickly. I think the reason why peoples scores/luck is bad is because they probablly got a passage they didn't understand or that confused them. That is what happens with me on the Reading and the Science sections, which are the same practically.

ahhh. someone else who mentions time.

If it weren't for the tough time constraints too many people would recieve good scores; so in return we must suffer in the Reading and Science sections. :(

So how do those people with terrific scores do it? How do they stay alert for 3 hours and still be able to focus on the test?

Terrific scores meaning 30+ ..........

honestly, i just approached it like a game, a competition. i didn't study, but i took a single practice test to know the format the night before, and worked my ass off through that test as if it were merely a game with me vs. other students to see who could get every question right in the fastest time, and as a result i finished every section with at least 2 minutes remaining. my composite was 35, but my science and reading scores were my highest (36 and 35, respectively).

I'm a slow reader/skimmer so I sucked on the reading and science

English:29
Math:36
Science:27
Reading:26
Composite:30

how is the ACT being graded? i heard that they dont do any Penalties...but can someone explain the process / the test for me? thx

science and reading were my best sections, I guess because I read pretty fast. I really need to work on my english and math though

English:25
Math:27
Reading:34
Science:33
Composite:30

I got a composite 34

English 33
Science 32
Math 35
Reading 34

Eat a good breakfast the morning of (something with protein). Bring a snack also like a power bar or peanuts and water. Get a goodnight sleep the night before. If you do all this you'll have an easier time paying attention. Just try not to think about how long it is and just go with it. I read the whole reading passages quickly and was fine for the reading section. The science section was a little harder.. I didn't get to the last section. So that I really can't give much advice. Except for that don't read the whole thing. Look at the qs and then look at the charts/graphs for the asnwers directly.

I kind of breezed through most of the parts, though on science, I definitely did feel pressed for time. I also didn't do the essay, so I think my test was a little shorter, and not quite so draining. On the science, I frankly just narrowed it down and guessed a bunch, and I guess I made good guesses. I got:
English 31
Math 33
Reading 34
Science 32
Composite 33

My English rhetorical skills were what brought me down the most; I got a 14 out of 18. Then for my reading arts/literature, I got a 17 out of 18, but that's only 97th percentile for that. I took it in April, and found that I liked it much better than the SAT, which I took in March.
