My Progress Thread - We Will Triumph

@variable7 At my school you take algebra 2 before geometry, if you’re in honors level. So I guess that’s what they mean by taking up to geometry. Algebra 1, 2, and geometry I think are the only ones in the sat.

@variable: thank you for the guide! I already use some of those methods but it helps a bunch to have it all in a list. Kudos! :)

I have somehow mastered the art of hypnosis and I believe I am able to “love” every CR passage I read…

Anyone have tips on learning vocab? Even though I know the definitions of words I completely blank out during the tests and confuse meanings with other ones. I bought a cork board w/ push pins to put some words on there to stare at. Hopefully this works? Haha

I just finished a practice test, ouch… I never imagined how much of an impact tiredness can have on your score :frowning: Better get a good night’s sleep the night before!
Anyway:
Math 780 (that 1 dumb mistake :frowning: )
CR 750 -4 (ouch…I think this is the section that gets impacted the most when you’re tired)
Writing 780 -2 (this was really odd, dumb mistakes)

Any of you taking SATs after school for practice? I feel like this isn’t helping because I end up with too much work and not enough sleep. Will I be okay if I only take tests on weekends from now on?

I took sat after school.
Yes fatigue did play a big role in your performance. After several full length ( 10 section with extra CR ) practice tests, I can minimize the impact of fatigue.
I am prepared for the worst scenarios - be it less sleep, nervousness, fatigue or hungriness.
Built up your endurance and stamina, then you should be in a perfect position to handle any situation.

For vocabularies, check out Direct Hit 1&2. They are very good.
Other than that, you may want to try other vocabulary books. I have two GRE vocabulary books, manhattan Essential & Advance words, which are awesome books with examples and lots of synonyms and antonyms.
Just my two cent

benjamin - how would you recommend minimizing the impact of fatigue? Should I do a practice test every day after school?

variable7
try to do three cr or math sections in a roll and see how you feel.
Then do four to test your retention

I usually do four CR sections in a roll and allocate 70 percent of the time on each section.
It works for me and doesn’t take a long time.

On lunch break now.
Did May 2010 SAT yesterday.
-3 CR 790, made three stupid mistakes.
-0 math 800
-4 WR 700
I will drill 2-3 sections writing everyday.

Can some one give me the link or tell me directly what is the noitaroprep Method for CR?
Thanks

So I took a CR test yesterday.

-6 with 1 omit. So I’m still hovering over 690-700 but still not breaking through.

What I am absolutely frustrated with is the math. I used to get 800s on practice tests before but I don’t know what’s going on. I keep making a mistake or two which ruins my whole score. My score right now is dependent upon me getting an 800 in SAT math.

The topics aren’t categorical either. Sometimes they its silly mistakes or misunderstanding the question.

I still need help in math. Benjamin, how do you score perfect nearly every time?

Hello guys, can I get some help.
I’m an international student. I’ve been to the US since last October.
I’m studying a lot and ready to do all the boring tasks.
I really want a good score on the SAT.
I took it twice ( three times if you counted an unofficial test held by the school )
All my scores were within the range (1550-1590)
I’m extremely lost.
I don’t know what’s wrong. I Do a critical reading section on the blue book.
( hardest section, I try to find every meaning of the unknown words )
In one section I have (7-9) I know it is embarrassing.
In each math section I get ( 4-6 wrong )
and I get (17) “Ouch” wrong on both writing sections.
I’ve tried many tests and sections in the blue book, and In Kaplan 2009 12 tests.
I’m also using the Gruber’s guide.
I mean, how do you guys get the right answer?
I’m tired of getting the wrong answer. I’m tired from not improving.

Plus: does anyone know where can I find explanations for blue books answers?
I know SATQuantam for math. But what about critical reading and writing?

I’m sorry for my negativity. I wish you all wonderful scores.
Have a good day.

MedicalBoy
Try to do the first 10 math questions in 5 minutes or so. My trick is finish quick and review two or three times.

You may want to drill couple math sections everyday and try to speed up on easy questions. If you can finish one section within half of the time, then you are in a perfect position to spot any potential mistakes.

Did Jan 2010 test, best score ever.
-0 CR 800
-0 Math 800
-2 with a 10 essay WR 770!!! First -2!!!
I’ll keep drilling more writing sections.

Also check out this writing question.
The people (sitting behind me) in the movie theater were talking throughout the film and (would) not keep (their voice) down even after being asked (to do so). No Error

I was reluctant to spot the error, struggled for couple second. But eventually I picked the wrong answer.

@Benjamin I think the error is in the singular “their voice” . People should have multiple voices. Hence, a correction would be “their voices”.

Peps
Kudos!! You got it right. During my test I thought voice was an uncountable noun and I juggled between voice and no error for a while.

I took a practice test after school today, still have a crazy amount of hw to finish…but
CR -1 800
Math -1 770 (ew, 1 dumb mistake where I didn’t read the question correctly)
Writing -0 800

I feel like I’m still making really dumb mistakes, but I didn’t get as many wrong as the last one I took, perhaps because I am way less tired today

Guys, we have 15 days left. It’s time to hone our skills!!!
I plan to drill 3 CR and 3 writing sections everyday and redo all 2010-2013 SAT tests.
Good luck you all!!!

Hi benjamin8451,

I really admire your determination that you keep on doing tons of questions even you have already been hitting 2300+ consistently. My son is so into his schoolwork and activities that he can only do practice questions during the weekend. The most he can do is one full practice test per week.
