My Progress Thread - We Will Triumph

benjamin - where did you find all of the 2010 - 2013 SATs? I thought they didn’t QAS all of them.

Variable
I mean only QASs… I wish I had other months’ test lol

@Benjamin thanks for the vocab advice!

@Everyone: Are all of you seniors taking it for the last time or juniors taking it early? Just curious!

Good luck to everyone and may you all get 2400s~!

And in regards to the last question about time management: I don’t do a whole practice test a day after school. I just do a section of each every day and I save the whole practice tests for the weekend. What really annoys me is when recycle an old test and remember the answers to it when I’m taking it :(

@benjamin any CR advice? mainly for answering the reading questions. i have a 720 now (5 mistakes or so from march) and i always get tripped up on a few! how do you avoid the test’s tricks?

@waffles im a senior, last time

Judy Dater’s photographs depict everyday reality while also evoking qualities so ___ that few photographers can capture them.

Concrete
Steadfast
Fleeting
Mundane
Dreary

@medicalboy fleeting … i.e. few photographers are able to catch them

def fleeting

Tsk tsk. Me and my rash decisions…

Thanks guys. A total of 13 days left. Yay…

Diddly
When you are doing cr questions, there are times when you are down to two answer choices, I suggest you change your approach: instead of picking up the right answer, eliminate the one which is more wrong.

Remember you have to justify every word in the passage. So the wrong answers are sometimes just one word wrong.

A sidenote though, every question is designed to link you to the main idea/argument/story of the passage. So when you still can’t figure out which answer is wrong, think about the big picture and try to eliminate the wrong answer.

Keep practicing and notice your pattern.
Good luck!

Don’t forget to practice bubbling. It can take quite some time!!!

Took Jan 2009 test
-3 CR 780 (ah, if I didn’t misread apathy, I should get 800)
-0 Math 800
-0 WR 800 ( my best score, I guess hard work pays off!!!)

I would be ecstatic if this is my test score.

I think I will be able to manage the Maths section. But I am worried about CR and Writing.I scored around 2100 in the practice tests. This is the first time I’m taking the SAT.A bit nervous, actually.

^ it’s my first time too. I probably can’t take the test second time… I am quite nervous too.

Took the May 2011 SAT this morning.

CR - 9 wrong - 660
Math - 0 wrong - 800
Writing - 2 wrong - 750

That would be the worst case scenario but with their curve its a…

CR - 690
Math - 800
Writing - 780

Total - 2210(worst case) or 2270(their curve)

I have to say the reading was challenging but there were some mistakes that I could have easily avoided. I’m still going to drill sections everyday and study vocabulary vehemently this week. I’m going to leave the last couple days of prep towards revisiting my mistakes from past tests.

Benjamin, if you took the May 2011 test, could you tell me the difficulty of it in your opinion?

@everyone - need to improve CR by at least a 100 points - please suggest what can be done - too many mistakes in the passages!!

Took a test this morning. I feel like I haven’t taken one in forever my course load is making it rough I think I’m going to start waking up early to take tests or at least sections before school. Todays test I got a 730 critical reading 680 writing and a 800 math. First 800 in math so thats neat but my other sections are being harmed by me not working on sat stuff as much as I should. Overall a 2210 which is barely barely meeting my goal. Would you guys mind If i posted essays here to be graded?

Just wondering, how do you guys manage to study so much during school days?
I get home from school around 2:20, and by the time I finish my homework its between 4 and 5. Then I have to study (tests like every other day lol), eat dinner, shower, etc and its already like 7.

Also, anyone have advice on how to improve math within the next 2 weeks? Should I try to get the Dr. Chung e-book?

If anyone has any 2012 or 2013 tests, could you please message me? Even one, so I can test myself!

20Summer08 with a schedule like that you should have plenty of time to prep. For me I get home from cross country at 5:30 or 6, which is right after school. Then I shower and eat and start homework at 7 or 7:30. Then I am usually up until around midnight doing my homework. I would trade schedules with you any day.

picklechicken37 That sounds similar to mine actually! My school ends around 2:40, I wish it ended at 2:20 like Summers.

Soooo frustrated

Doing terrible on CR (680, 690) when my goal is a 750
Doing terrible on Math (god knows what I’m getting, last time I did one I think it was a 650) when my goal is a 750

Writing is good (770, 780, 790) but I haven’t practiced in a while
