I’m starting to keep a notebook of my most prominent errors with extensive explanations and thinking about reviewing all of them once a week. I believe that’s the best way for retention and certain things will stand out during the test. If not explicitly, unconciously.

Ha! It was actually closer to 4 am since I’m on the east coast. Not really working hard…I sleep during the day and work at night ^.^

To answer your questions slasheer: yes on steps 1-5; just make a mental (or physical note) of the mistake and keep it mind. I “learn” from my mistakes. That doesn’t mean that I will 100% never make it again, but you can be sure that if the same exact question popped up again I would get it right.

I don’t write anything specific. Just enough explanation to know why I got it wrong and why the right answer is right.

Most of time I mentally think of the reworded sentence in my head, and sometimes I have to right it down if my brain has too much going on at once.

Eh, I sort of just keep them in my head (my corrections). Whatever works for you…you can definitely do that…like writing extra stuff down, reviewing your mistakes, etc.

How accurate are the Writing sections in the blue book? It’s always random errors that make me get 3-6 wrong on that section. Compared to real PSATs I’ve taken though, the PSATs seem a lot easier in that they don’t have 2 seemingly correct answers as often.

I hate that, when I’m down to 2 possible ones on the Fixing the sentences and i choose the wrong one. Like all 3 choices have the wrong verb(were) and I’m down to 2 choices with (was), then there are those 1 or 2 words that make them different and i always pick the wrong one, like ***!

Hey guys. I’ve been a bit busy with some work.

I’ve been trying to perfect math with Dr. Chungs and writing with Erica’s book. I need to get a couple more questions right in reading. In total I need 1-2 for math, 1-2 for writing, and 1-2 for reading and I’m all set. To get those last few questions right, I have to work sooo hard. Anyone else in the same position? Does anyone have any serious improvement so far?

@medicalboy I’m in almost the exact same position, except I do not have to improve my reading score. Coincidentally, I’m also using the same books as you are for writing/math. I’m finding them both very helpful. Another math book I found very helpful was PWN the sat, but that’s mostly for strategies, not for practice. Another thing I do is use the app “SAT Up” to practice when I’m on the go. It has a very easy to use userface and tracks your progress as you improve.
Is there anything you’ve been doing that has helped you on your road to improvement?

I’ve been learning a lot of vocab and then then doing practice tests/sections. I absolutely NEED that 800 in math so I’m using Chung for that. And 800 is writing would be nice but since its unlikely that my essay will change, I need perfect MC too.

I’m going to look at “How to write a 12 essay in 10 days” later.

My main problem is CR, I’m not consistent and when I review my mistakes, I want to punch myself in the face. I cannot fathom why I put certain things as my answer. I know I have the right method but its the problem of actually understanding and focusing. I still have a lot of time left so I’m not losing hope.

I want to keep this thread alive. People can start posting their own progress too. I guess more people will be into it when school starts.

My progress:
I got a 2150(750M/750W/650CR) last Saturday. I feel horrible about the math, I really wanted that 800, but careless mistakes are getting in the way. I thought I had hit at least a 700 in reading, but turns out I didn’t; I missed 3 SC and 9 Passage-based. While I’m taking the test I can’t decide between two answers, but once I check my answers I can see lots of silly mistakes… they really annoying.

@kevin … awesome dude !
I just diagnosed my skills with a sample test and scored just 630 on maths
Hope it gets better , taking sat kn november !
Wish me luck !

i have been struggling for days trying to find old psat answer keys, and was just wondering if anyone here has the answer keys to the 2006 and 2007 psat?
including the Saturday and Wednesday version. please i need this urgently and heard it takes weeks to hear back from college board.

are u using psat to study for sat?

yeas and it is so annoying that i cant find the answer to check my mistakes.

Hey guys, quick writing question:

In winter, when the ponds froze over, the villagers went skating, and the most venturesome of whom played chase and executedcomplicated turns on the ice.

(A) Same
(B) the most venturesome played chase and executed
(C) in that the most venturesome played chase and executed
(D) with the most venturesome playing chase and executing
(E) accordingly the most venturesome played chase and executed

I was stuck between A and D. Can someone explain?

A is incorrect because of “of whom”; its wordy, unnecessary, and used incorrectly (whom is only used for objects of the sentence). I also think the tense change makes it incorrect i.e. (ing to ed) but I’m not sure completely.

Yea the answer is D. I saw “went” and automatically thought it was past and hastily chose my answer.

Also I thought SAT doesn’t test who/whom but if its there, its usually used correctly?

Yea, the SAT doesn’t test who/whom:
([Complete SAT Grammar Rules](http://thecriticalreader.com/general-grammar-tips/sat-grammar/item/264-complete-sat-grammar-rules.html))
I only choose D because A I think is too wordy. Just noticed this now, “played chase and executed complicated turns” in choice A makes it seem like playing chase and executing turns are different activities, when they are really things being done while skating. D conveys that idea the best, IMO.

@medicalboy i’m studying for my third attempt in october, I have 800 CR, 700 M and 720 W so far. Obviously looking to make major improvements in writing and math. My math has definitely been coming along, it feels very easy now. How are you using chung’s? To practice very hard questions?

Yea Chung’s helps with “creative” thinking to help you tackle the hard problems during test day. It helped me but there are still some topics I’m weak in such as probability so I review that on the side.

Do you find the tips helpful?

Tips are ehh. But the practice tests are crazy. Its all level 4/5 problems and it helps you think outside the box
